Skyforge gets invaded by robots, expands the Ascension Atlas, and holds a race

Hooray, we won and that means all problems are solved forever!

The world of Aelion in Skyforge can’t stop being invaded for two minutes, it seems. Mechanoids are invading, and you know that means smashing a whole lot of robots to ensure the safety of the world’s inhabitants. Being a deity is a lot harder than it looks, apparently. The good news is that you’ve got an edge in doing so with the expansion to the game’s Ascension Atlas, adding in Vectors and Nodes of Destruction, Balance, and Creation to fine-tune your stats.

Players also have the opportunity to take part in a new racing event, the Grand Prix, which has prompted some consternation from players due to the purchases involved in playing competitively. If you want to see all of this stuff on display without having to log in, the game’s development team is also hosting a livestream at 2 p.m. EDT today, showing off the most recent update for everyone to see.

Zealous Pashgan Nordavind From this event I got the most interesting (to me) item absolutely free – I just used 5k argents from replicators sales which I didn’t waste on holy texts (having experience with Ru version I know prestige race is utterly pointless in unfinished game).
Yet people argue (lie) how they are getting useless cosmetic helm for 24M credits (150k argents btw – twice more than actual results) and thus the game is bad.

Mitzruti Pashgan Why would you want to get 1250 points for 24 millions credits just to get useless cosmetic helm?
As someone said recently – MMO players look like a crowd of whiny kids without any traces of intellect. Which is amusing considering average player is male in his late-20s.

Nordavind The community guy in the forums suggests that pretty much everybody should be able to obtain the dual build thingy without paying during the course of the event. The rest of the prizes, though, is meant “for collectors” (which should be read as “for the people who are willing to spend money”). Here’s his post: https://eu.portal.sf.my.com/comments/55f96313ac72d29e47777fbf/9?page=1

It’s safe to expect the further events will be built along the same idea (at least the Russian “crimefighting” was pretty much  the same): some minor gameplay bonus for everybody, and a ton of fluff for people with deep pockets.

I’m starting to zero in on what it is that drives me away from the game after only so many instances.

Sure, the monotony of said instances gets to me after a while. But i think the real issue is the insane damage difference between the mob types.

Here is the thing, you have 4 types. tiple diamonds, apparently supposed to be the swarm/trash of the game. Swords that are the heavy hitters. Shields that are tanks. And pyramids that are support.

Thing is that the basic attack of the diamonds hit crazy hard. I keep running the numbers and i find that i can barely take 10 hits, +-2-3, from them before defeat. And they keep coming in swarms of 3-6+. Thats not a lot of time to clear them out, no matter how much spammable AOE you have. The real issue though i that these critters only do basic attacks, and you can’t dodge basic attacks. Thus any time you engage them, its a DPS race. This becomes a particular problem in any boss fight that use them as adds, as the fight can quickly go pear shaped if you miss just one of them.

In contrast the swords, the supposed heavy hitters, only do that kind of damage via heavily telegraphed attacks. Thus if i am up against a sword, i can make the fight last much longer, and have much more control of the outcome, than if i face a “trash”.

In essence i find myself exhausted after just a couple of instances, simply because i have to be 110% on guard for that lone trash poking me in the backside with the nuclear tipped pointy stick! This in contrast to say ESO where i can go for hours with barely a notice. And yet Skyforge is basically designed around being a no-life grinders game, endlessly running the hamster wheel to make some number or bar move ever so slightly.

Nordavind I wonder if they’ll keep a distinction just between their Russian and International servers for this sort of thing. Seems like Russian gamers might just have a higher tolerance in general for crazy ridiculous grinds? Gaijin loves to put rewards beyond impossible grind barriers as well.

Sadly you need more than $10 to get decent prizes from this event.
Btw I’ve brought the founder pack, collector edition and spent $92 on argent.  You would have farm a crap ton of holy text and rank stones and then sell them to get a decent reward from this event.

They need to
-kill the credit cap during the event
-Shorten the race time from 8hrs to 1hr
-increase the length of the event

Pashgan it costs 7.1 million credits just to buy the tickets you cannot farm (that is, ~14 weeks of maxing your credit cap), PLUS if you don’t rush any of the races you can only score 63 points in 3 weeks. the remaining 1187 points would cost just under 24million credits (or, almost 48 weeks of credit caps).

this isn’t the sort of event that’s even pretending to be doable by f2p players. there’s not even any worthwhile rewards to get before you faceplant into an arbitrary limit to how many tickets can be acquired ingame.

…not that this should be surprising given what happened with allods.

In Ru version stuff from the lottery can be farmed in 3 weeks (purchased for 3M in-game credits) – yet forums are full of “it’s pay2win” whining. This is very good example – why people shouldn’t be allowed to play really nice games for free (instead of buy2play)? To avoid bad PR from male drama queens in their late-20s (average MMORPG player) 8-)

Nordavind If optional $10 payment once in a while is a problem for you – you really shouldn’t play games.
