Shroud of the Avatar will start new players in outer space

Portalarium continues to flesh out Shroud of the Avatar, most recently with a new intro setting called the Island of Storms. This place is a floating island in outer space with breathtaking views and crucial choices for beginning adventurers.

“Arabella greets new avatars coming from Earth and guides them with a series of questions that will determine which path they start down: Truth, Love, or Courage,” Portalarium explained. “These paths not only determine which plot thread you begin with, they also determine what your starting abilities are and what equipment you have.”

Release 22 is coming out next week for Shroud of the Avatar and will contain the ability to craft trophies from caught fish, steampunk goggles for players who go through the release tour, and the debut of dragons. Speaking of the winged lizards, you can see a dragon in action after the jump!

I think you’re right about that. Star Citizen already has a SoTA cross bow so it’s only natural something from SC will be in SoTA too. :)

Elirion Damonvile Supposedly they removed the additional Focus hit when using the fixed skill bar / locked skills.

Damonvile By default you start with a fixed skill bar.  You have to switch to a dynamic bar (deck system) if you want to play in that mode.  The recent changes were to allow you to assign where the cards will be dealt, so like, all your health skills into slots 1-4, melee in 5-6, fire magic in 7-8, etc.

Vikingr Ultima VII had an easter egg where you saw the Wing Commander ship in some farmer’s field.  I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw something like that in SoTA, perhaps a ship from Star Citizen.

Sweet, i’ll need to check it out. This was one that really caught my eye when I played it and I’ve been meaning to revisit it

I watched a bit of someone streaming Shroud and it actually looked pretty nice (albeit still very much in an pre-release phase).  Might have to check it out at some point down the road.

Question: why the hell is Bree not the one reporting about this game?

I would think with her love of modding and Ultima she would be all over this thing.

Damonvile  That was a concern for me too, the card game combat that I did not like. It seemed like one of the devs was a magic the gathering fan and wanted to put some aspect of that into SotA. Then the card game aspect drew magic the gathering fans and other card game fans to SotA which made it apparently too hard for the non-card game fans who didn’t like it to let their displeasure be known enough to the devs to get them to get rid of it.
