The future of PlanetSide 2 is racing toward the community at a rapid pace according to a new developer Q&A that was hosted on Reddit yesterday.
One possibility that was dangled in front of the community was the possibility of a player-settled continent. “How would you feel about more of a blank slate continent(s) that could be used to construct player-built bases, once the construction system has a larger library of pieces to build?” Daybreak asked.
The studio also pointed fans to its In Development forum for the current major projects being tackled. This road map includes new victory conditions, bounties, the construction system, leadership tools for the PC, and an overhaul of the login menu for the PlayStation 4.

Road map, revision 326?
In the prerelease days, they had a lot of proposed ideas from water combat to AI invaders.
Even with their original staffing, this is like talking about building flying cars. It could happen sometime in the future, but we can’t even guess how far out.
Samizdat falloutdc Server Smashes are kind of garbage though. Mostly because it just shows off just how absurd it is to think that they could make Planetside an E-sports centric game.

To be fair though, a lot of the optimization that was done for the PS4 would have still needed to be done for the PC version anyway (the poor threading optimization at launch hurt performance for a lot of people, which didn’t do the game any favours for trying to build an installed playerbase) and they probably would have kept punting on getting it done without the impetus of the potential new player/revenue stream from an additional platform. It also brought some visual improvements as well (looks like they’ve done some PBR work among other things), so it wasn’t all bad.
I dunno, PS2 has certainly had more than its’ share of things to gripe about over the years (and I’m just as dubious of any of this new stuff happening) but that one at least seems a little misdirected.
Love me some PS2, but won’t be holding my breath for this.
orionite BoredNow They’re likely referring to how PlanetSide 2 is owned by Daybreak Games, which is owned by Columbus Nova which is the U.S. affiliate of a Russian conglomerate, according to Wikipedia. I personally have no idea exactly how closely related Columbus Nova is to the Russian group and Wikipedia doesn’t seem to have any elaboration on how closely affiliated they are.

falloutdc It sort of has one with Server Smash. That’s the many reason I play and scrim with my outfit these days.
The game needs a working meta game like planetside one had
Polyanna Never trust a statistic you haven’t manipulated yourself, eh? :)
That’s concurrent players, and you’re not even looking at peaks. So, take the folks that don’t log in every day, then spread it out over the different servers and timezones. I think the numbers are quite a bit better.
I’d be very critical of any claims of a major update, but at least we have some dedicated people left in the community.Â
