Can we get a quick show of hands indicating who likes logging into a familiar MMO and finding out that every one of his or her character’s skills has been reworked into unrecognizability? Yep, that’s a big showing of absolutely no one. A recent post on the state of Project Gorgon explains that the designers are well aware of that, but the nature of the game’s current testing phase is that it’s all but inevitable, as much as the people involved would prefer to avoid it.
The short version is that with the game in its early test stages, the devs must make balance decisions that will sometimes wildly alter the overall course of the game, and the testing period is exactly when all of this stuff should be done. Players should expect a certain amount of instability. The bright side is that unstable skills now mean a better game in the long term. Or, if you’d prefer the whole thing in a more direct format, alpha testing is subject to change without much warning so that the launch game doesn’t have to undergo the same sort of wide-scale rewrites.

Alpha? Perfectly normal. Expected. Wanted, even.
Serrenity I just stated my opinion as did you , just your opinion , In this case we will just have to beg to differ .
cheers
Ironwu Why do you call it low-tech?
Koolthulu how is it that developers have only themselves to blame for the deliberate and continued ignorance of a subset of the player base who doesn’t understand what they are buying, and makes no effort educate themselves? Â While the argument might have held more weight a year ago, we are pretty far into this “Early Access” craziness, and it’s not unreasonable for a developer to expect players to be educated about what exactly it means to have an early access game.
MinionDave while your statement may or may not be true, that’s clearly not the case here, nor the topic of the article, nor does it address the overarching topic of the developer post. Â
Furthermore, this project in particular didn’t sell on the ‘hype’ but on the actual, playable product, which while in testing phase, was very endearing and VERY much a darling child that resulted in their successful kickstarting. Â You could download and play the game before deciding to back.Â
You can make claims about hype all you want, but it doesn’t apply in this particular.
I love the game but this is just another pitfall of early access. You’re buying to test the game but a lot of customers dont see it that way. They see a game, they like game, then buy said game with the misconception that this is how the game will always be.
This leads to devs having to state the obvious and people getting kissed off at what should have been obvious and then bad or from said pissed people because they missed something fairly obvious.
This weekend was funny. People with lycanthropy couldn’t change back to human form because of the full moon. All the werewolves running around town, and the NPCs reactions made chuckle several times. But the best part were some people who were butthurt because of this. It’s one of the few cases where you have to suffer the consequences of your decisions.
DahkohtLewin They are about to put it on Steam Early Access. It’s possible that in the meantime there’ll be an option to buy it from the developers, but they are busy now with Kickstarter surveys and the next update.
That’s the problem with these early access backing things they sell you the hype which is totally different to the end product , I no longer support the backing of games in construction .
I should probably get back on there and see what’s been happening. Have been in a heavy LoL mood so haven’t really been playing MMOs in general lately.
