Star Citizen studio ‘grows’ dev team, claims layoffs are ‘streamlin[ing]’

It’s never exactly calming to hear that a large project is laying people off before release, and that’s the rumor swirling around Cloud Imperium Games for the past few days. A recent statement from the studio claims that what’s happening on a company-wide level isn’t layoffs but a global restructuring and reorganization. The company states that as production ramps up on Star Citizen certain redundant positions in various local offices are being eliminated, while other positions are being created elsewhere:

“Cloud Imperium Games continues to grow its development team across CIG’s multiple studios,” CIG told Polygon. “Each of our four offices is being streamlined to focus on specific parts of Star Citizen which will allow for a more efficient and accelerated completion of the game.”

The net effect for the studio will supposedly be an increase in total employees by the time the dust settles. Each of Cloud Imperium’s four branch studios will be focusing on a single part of the game for development, a refocusing that was begun with Erin Roberts’ appointment as Global Production Head. That still means staff reduction in the short term, but perhaps not so much in the longer term.

2d December 2015: SC have reached
1.062.000 backers and 99.555.000 M$. Baby PU through AC 2 is released
on PTU for stress test (multiplayer ships, missions), Citizencon proved
that SC is strong and alive, CIG gathered 5 M$ in just two weeks for 3
years anniversary.. Meanwhile all attacks from the Florida Troll flop,
all of them without exception :)

The more you show your face, the more you get slapped.  I personnaly can do it for ever, I have time and resilience. A lot until, SC is released in 2016/2017. Then you will disapear again in the swamp of your own sickly incompetence and probably even before that.

blackparrot89 Professor K. I can only assume you have many many years experience in game development to know that this is not normal this early in development.
I mean I don’t know about you but this is the first game of this scope that I have followed during its development cycle because most games are announced several years already into development.
So you know, I don’t pretend to know what is normal during a development cycle of a game that would usually not even be announced to the public in its current state.
