Yep, the headline pretty much says it all. If you still haven’t taken the plunge on Funcom’s seminal Secret World MMO, now is as good a time as any. Steam is selling the game’s ultimate edition for $29.99 for the next 40-odd hours, which is half price if you’re wondering.
What does the ultimate edition include? All of the numbered issue expansions through 11, the Further Analysis, Love & Loathing, and Last Pagan side stories, a set of beginner weapons, 25 ability points, a double AP boost item, and a zenith core outfit for your avatar.

teppic DahkohtLewin Don’t need steam to launch the game, but I believe that all billings will go through them. Quote from Funcom CS:
“If you do not wish to directly involve your account with Steam or alter your payment method, I do not recommend adding a retail game key from Steam to this account. While this may allow you to access exclusive Steam rewards and items, it will also require you to link your Funcom account with your Steam account. This account link can not be undone once completed. Additionally, you would be required to submit any future Funcom Point payments for The Secret World through Steam Wallet, instead of your preferred payment method.”
Estranged Savage Coast is nice, but Transylvania is even better. Shame they had to put Egypt in between those two. :)
DahkohtLewin Yeah, you just need to add the Steam code to your account.
If you buy it and get the account setup can you then skip using steam for TSW ?
Armsbend Polyanna People often spend $15/month for optional subs in f2p games, or $150 for some awful founder’s pack in shitty Trion games – this seems a brilliant deal to me given how much content you get.
Yeah, it’s not just “the game”, it’s the game plus four years of accumulated DLC content. $30 is frankly a steal.
Estranged You just sort of hit on all the points I can’t get into TSW – even though I’ve owned it this whole time.
The writing and voice over acting are alright, competently done but not amazingly fabulous – other games have set the bar really really high there. TSW tries but in my opinion doesn’t really live up to the best story moments in gaming – I don’t consider NPCs ranting monologues AT my character (who never speaks) to be amazing stuff.
The models are not that great… whenever I see humanoids in video games and their bent arms look like bent tubes or pipes instead of an actual forearm and elbow… I start mentally checking out. There’s other games out there with really fantastic character models like GW2 and FFXIV, so again TSW tries and fails.
The ideas and concepts behind combat and character progression are original and a breath of fresh air – the execution is lacking; combat is rather boring and acquisition of SP is grindy, tedious and artificially capped. Can’t get into it.
That just about leaves the world, lore and story… definitely my favorite parts of TSW, but with every other core element of the game done better elsewhere, I try but fail to get into this game – and I’ve wasted lots of hours in various MMOs over the past few years.
I think what it comes down to is that I’m a “filthy casual” – I can’t dedicate myself heavily to any one game and games like TSW are not friendly to my demographic. Not saying that’s bad; not all games need to cater to everyone. But TSW definitely is for the dedicated and those willing to overlook the flaws for what, to me, is a rather lackluster product and outcome.
Region locking is a very bad idea, but not sure exactly which part of the chain determines that. But otherwise all the stuff for half price is a pretty good deal.
Polyanna It seems like a sale if you realize how much content comes with that 30 bucks.
At this point in this game’s life cycle, $30 hardly seems like a sale. Maybe if they put on a real fire sale at $3 a weekend or something they would get some actual interest in it.
