ARK Survival Evolved takes to the skies with the Quetzalcoatlus

36

While ARK is no stranger to flying dinos and the players crazy enough to ride them, today it’s upping the aerial combat arms race with the introduction of the Quetzalcoatlus.

Quetzalcoatlus is a massive winged beast that can transport not only people, but platforms and large weapons as well. Players who track down the elusive beast and tame it can transform Quetzalcoatlus into a primitive flying fortress.

You can check out all of the high-flying action in a short trailer after the break!

i’m hard pressed to think of anything more ridiculous and infeasible looking.

might be semi believable if it was a lumbering land animal,
but flying things have both extreme weight and aerodynamic limitations.

annoyedbadger milosanx Yup, cause taming a Trex with lovely meal of Scorp egg, vege and jerky is so realistic :)

milosanx Yeah, I don’t really know what kind of “content” Damonvile expects from this game. In a sandbox, new tools (like, say, a flying creature you can tame and use as an aerial combat platform) ARE content.

annoyedbadger milosanx It has creatures in it that lived tens of millions of years apart from each other in history plus alien artifacts. I’m not really sure how much reality they’ve really been trying to go for.

milosanx Mind Flayer imo 7Days to Die is better. It’s much more polished and I have a very high FPS.

milosanx its called suspension of disbelief.
If it was a wacky weird game where this shit was common, fine that works.
But ARK tries for immersion and reality, in the context of a dino survival sandbox….this totally beaks with the continuity of game, and erodes that suspension of disbelief for the game.

Mind Flayer Don’t let this put you off. You can play as primitive as you like, it’s all up to you.

As far as sandbox and survival game this is the best of the lot by far. So many great mechanics. It has had many optimizations already. Give it a go!

I had been kinda interested in getting this game once it became better optimized because a survival game with dinosuars sounded awesome!
…but then I saw this.  That ridiculously huge platform breaks any and all immersion.
If the game is headed in this kind of ridiculous direction, I think I’ll pass.
