It's green, right? We're splitting the difference.

It’s October 7th, and do you know what that means? Not just that Halloween is one day closer, as it happens; it means that the next major DC Universe Online update is available for members today. Players who would rather buy episodes piecemeal will have to wait until next week to pick up the episode, which contains a new 8-person Operation and a new duo adventure continuing the League of Assassins storyline.

Players in the Flash Museum Burglary will be fighting to keep Talia al-Ghul’s scimitar out of the hands of the League of Assassins, while the Operation pits players against Raven’s father Trigon in a cavalcade of demonic battles. It’s lore for DC Comics fans and content for a variety of different playstyles, and it’s available now if you’re a member.

Armsbend Greaterdivinity yeah… MMOs are hard to do with specific comic characters,  do you make it like DC unvierse Online where you can make your own hero and interact with the big guys… or do you go Marvel route and make it so you play as the heroes but have 20 of the same character.

Greaterdivinity It isn’t only marketing their cross promotion is everywhere.  ABC, ESPN, other networks, mobile, games…Disney is in everything in a huge way.

It’s cool Disney does a good job with stuff.

Armsbend Agree on the Marvel bit. Disney is driving them with a longterm vision, and it’s been great. DC doesn’t have the benefit of a brilliant marketing team from a parent company giving them direction, so they just flounder about : /

Greaterdivinity I wouldn’t say that for film at all.  The only reason Marvel has a longterm vision is because they were bought by Disney.  Before that they were pretty much the same as DC.

Kinda sucks comic companies almost feel forced to get into everything instead of just writing and drawing comics.

Armsbend Well, there’s always Infinite Cri…oh…nevermind : (
I’m still mostly convinced that DC has no actual clue what it wants to do with its characters in other mediums (film, TV, games) and largely just kinda throws licences at a wall at companies and hopes that it sticks, without any kind of proper longterm goal/vision.

Greaterdivinity I don’t blame them either – I was disappointed but not broken up about it.  Cool game but there are many pc games that surpass it.

I love me some DC though I hope one day someone makes a proper DC MMO using the characters.

Armsbend Yeah, they definitely put more focus on their console players. But I can’t blame them, the game apparently monetizes far better on PS3/4, so it makes sense that they pay more attention to them. Almost considered giving it a shot on my roommates ps4 just to see how it runs on that platform.

Greaterdivinity I tried simply communicating to devs on their forums.  They were in constant contact with their PS3 players but pc?  Nope.

Lost cause – so I uninstalled and havent looked back.  Too bad, I thought they had some of the most fun traveling in any game.  Just moving around the city felt cool.
