The Stream Team: A peek into Final Fantasy XIV’s housing

14
It’s no secret that housing is a favorite feature of any game for MassivelyOP’s MJ, and she’s excited to take a peek at FFXIV’s system. Of course, since she doesn’t own an abode herself, she’ll possibly be trespassing a bit here and there trying to sneak a look inside the homes of others. How many houses will she find unlocked to wander into? Tune in live at 1:00 p.m. to join her for the tour.

What: Final Fantasy XIV
Who: MJ Guthrie
When: 1:00 p.m. EDT on Friday, October 9th, 2015

Enjoy the show!

cursedseishi meltedskul ReginaldAtkins Krem camelotcrusade They don’t need to scrap neighborhoods at all. Wildstar is even /adding/ neighborhoods into that game and it’s well easily accessible to everyone. What FFXIV needs to do is add in something like an apartment complex deal almost like getting a room from a FC but open to everyone.

For the first point, my mistake. It was said that 3.x was going to be the last ‘for sure’ thing for PS3. with each expansion they are going to readress if PS3 will be holding them back. So it being scrapped for 4.x is still a possibility. I do know is that 3.x will be adding improvements in the housing system. I do not think every single person should get a house easily but it needs to cover a much larger number than currently.

FFXIV housing is TERRIBLE.

Sorry, but there is nowhere that states that “4.x will drop ps3”. At most, Yoshida has stated he is willing to drop support for the PS3 IF and WHEN it’s necessary in order to keep up in the market. Anything more than that vague statement is speculation.
And no, no it won’t.This kind of helps explain it better than I can, but the fact is no amount of ‘expanded’ neighborhoods will ever close the gap between those available to own and all the players in the game.comment image

Again, the only way housing will ever be readily available to the average player is to scrap the housing system as it currently is. And if Square wants a gold sink, then they can just as easily add in upgrades to those base houses and allow for gill to be spent on expanding and altering it.

Omedon ReginaldAtkins camelotcrusade I’m a casual player and just do the daily stuff and since you don’t spend your money on anything, you’ll rake up on average of 2 mil by the time you hit 50. The rest you can just get from just playing the game.

“3.1 will introduce auto removal of plots on accounts that are inactive which I believe are sitting on a bunch of land.”
Which is disgusting.  Both that those plots are limited in quantity and that they can disappear if someone is gone from a subscription game for a time.  Ugh. I need to not talk about this, FFXIV housing just turns me so sour inside.

Of the myriad things XIV did great in its rebirth, housing was not one of them.

cursedseishi ReginaldAtkins Krem camelotcrusade The housing issue will be resolved in 3.x patches and 4.x will drop PS3 support allowing for more wards and bigger neighborhoods. Yoshi-P did confirm that the PS3 is holding them back from improving housing a lot more. I personally enjoy the neighborhood system than simple instanced housing for all.

“More should they need to” has been a thing that has been needing to happen a few weeks after the subdivisions were created. Point of the matter is that the system, as is, is borked for a good majority of the player base. Depending on servers, most if not all the small housing plots were likely bought out within a couple weeks, and medium sized houses alone are several times the price.

What Krem said isn’t “old information”, it’s true. The system was borked from the beginning, when the obscenely rich players were more than able to just “buy” themselves an FC and get a housing option alongside the FCs that had to buy them as well. It got further borked when Players were allowed to buy houses, but had to compete against other FC’s on the same plots. And adding more subdivisions will not fix this.

The only way a player will reasonably ever be able to get a house is if they divorce housing from the convoluted mess of Instanception servers and make the houses instanced to a player and naught else. They can leave the gates, so to speak, leading to the housing areas… But rather than going to an instanced shard of houses, it directs players specifically to their own house. FF11 managed to nail housing easily enough, and I’ve yet to really hear any complaints against that.

ReginaldAtkins Krem camelotcrusade ” course they still cost in the millions of gill”
So your answer to camelotcrusade is “No,” then.
