Make My MMO: Divergence Online takes Steam by storm (October 10, 2015)

Make My MMO

This week in MMO crowdfunding news, Divergence Online landed on Steam Greenlight, bolstering its ongoing Indiegogo campaign by rocketing to #15 on the platform’s Greenlight list. The developer has vowed to push out daily patches and reminded Steam voters that “any contribution at or above $30 on [the Indiegogo platform] means you already get a free copy of the game when it’s released on Steam. You don’t have to ‘re-buy’ anything.”

Read on for Divergence’s latest alpha 3 video and our roundup of the rest of this week’s crowdfunding news.

I’ve been following DO for, well, years now.  As far back as the fresh-off-SWG-EMU days.  But the fact that $20 gets me nothing means DO gets nothing.  I don’t know who put the arranged the benefits of the first three tiers but they’d be raising more money if $20 was more than “thanks.”
And $50 should really be $40.  IDK, it’s their fundraising effort and who the hell am I but the $10, $20, and $50 pledge levels are off-putting.

the toons move so funny LOL and the ballet stance is too feminine… but the running animation is really the best laugh i’ve seen in a long time :D

It’s possible that they’re “catalogue” sound effects. When I worked in (low-end) television, there were libraries of stock sound effects you could buy from providers, for royalty-free use in production. It’s possible Divergence is (intentionally?) using one or more of the same stock sound libraries as SWG.

It’s also possible that, after SWG was closed down, Sony sold some of its sound assets as stock sounds to generate a little extra cash. Such things have happened with discontinued TV shows and movies.

Cujo H Whole game is based on SWG assets / mechanics :

ohforfs There’s no comparison between the two.

Divergence seems to be promising similar to The Repopulation. The Repop alpha’s have been a disappointment for me so I might back this too. I am happy to back to or three games in the hope one will come through as a viable MMO for me.

Mitzruti Limited subsets of backers have access to the CU server where within a few seconds of a developer committing code/art/stuff it is running live on the server.

strange that Divergence is using the radial menu sound effects from Star Wars Galaxies.

daily? that just seems like a super bad idea.
