The Daily Grind: What MMO characters have you stuck with for years?

No one liked Warlords. ANd let's be clear, that's because it was bad.

The header picture is of my Shaman in World of Warcraft. I made her with the launch of The Burning Crusade because of course I made a Draenei Shaman; it was just what you did. She was meant to be a bottom-tier character whom I occasionally played, not a priority. Years later, I’ve been playing her consistently as a main and my first character to the level cap for every single subsequent expansion to the game. She stuck with me; I stuck with her.

Some characters get that coveted “main” status for a little while, but some manage to be our stalwart main characters for years on end, fixtures of our gaming worlds. So what MMO characters have you stuck with for years? Are they old favorites, or just characters that always avoid getting deleted even though you rarely play them?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!

My characters follow when I move from game to game. Therefore my eldest MMO character is Raserreistern who began her life in the wilds of the Blood Elven territories during the TBC beta.

I pretty much stick to one character per game and just do ‘whatever’ on alts. Therefore:

EQ Pally – 5 years
WoW Hunter – 11 YEARS (almost 12)
SWTOR Trooper – 4 years

I probably spent more actual hours playing syberghost on Triumph in City of Heroes than all my mains in all other MMOs combined.

All games, if I can make a stealth character, if not any range. If I can’t stabby stabby I’ll pew pew. I was a hardcore altaholic not only did I play every class, I would also get them fully geared.
WoW specifically, my main was my Raiding toon. Vanilla: Rogue but switched to Warlock midway through MC. BC: Alliance get Shaman so I went Resto Shammy. WotLK: Resto Shammy switched to DK tank but also raided on my hunter in a different guild. Played what to much and decided to concentrate on one main for raiding and just have fun on alts. Cataclysm: DK tank but would bring in Resto/Elemental Shammy if not tanking. MoP: Warrior tank for raiding, Ele Shammy for pvp hijinks.
WoD U0001f622 Nothing, max leveled a cpl classes but couldn’t stand gameplay long enough to raid with my friends.

My undead warrior is still tooling around in WoW ever since TBC, although he’s currently on a server I don’t play on and I’m too lazy to transfer him.  He got rerolled after I spent some time on a gnome warrior in vanilla and then switched to horde.  The evolution of playing protection spec from vanilla all the way to current game is nearly unrecognizable.

My Sentinel in SWTOR. She has been around since the beginning and the toon I take trough all the new content first and is the one I raid with. I have all the other classes on both factions max level but she is the one I go back to.

Estranged Draegoth For sure and I still make sure to have at least 1 pet with tank traits at all times, although its rarely needed when questing.
