Daybreak Executive Creative Director Jens Andersen admitted on Reddit that PlanetSide 2 isn’t doing as well as it should: “The game is really struggling, and it isn’t just on PS4 to be honest, and we are actively looking at things that can try and help change that in the short term. I hope everyone will be open minded that in order for the game to have a bright future and be supported it needs to not only retain people but find ways to generate revenue to support the team’s efforts.”
This comment was part of an overall AMA for the studio’s newest lead. Andersen talked about many topics in the discussion, including one small detail about Daybreak’s secret game. “The unannounced title I came up with,” Andersen said.
Well it felt like there was a massive lack of support for a long time.
“I hope everyone will be open minded that in order for the game to have a bright future and be supported it needs to not only retain people but find ways to generate revenue to support the team’s efforts.”
Google Translate:
“Let’s grease the wheels before we monetize the game some more, we’ve obviously gave up trying to fix it and we’re just gonna go with finding ways to extract more money for less effort at this point. Oh yeah, and all that stuff you have better pay more or it all goes away… but remember, it’s all you guys fault in the end.”
I don’t know anything about the business of games, but I’d have to wonder how most shooters are capable of supporting online play, and then wonder why the “MMO” types seem to have such a hard time.
honestly at this point, until they can provide some real, concrete, definite info on Everquest Next, Daybreak should just shut not be working on anything else new.
SkyyDragonn That is it too… when landmark was new the systems were actually FUN…
Sure there was some RNG crap in the burled wood logs and the mining pick upgrades.
But the mining itself with the variety of ores was fun and the construction process was simple and accessible.
Then they came in with the first lot of changes which just added complexity to a gametype that should have stayed about simple gathering and building mechanics…
And after that brought in RNG grind to get things to even make basic mining picks and even more grinding to make the tools.
All in all I don’t see myself ever touching landmark again, I loved it when it launched but the potential flew out of the window and they missed their mark…
Styopa Level has nothing to do with your ability to kill enemies, and every weapon is situational. The weapons you start out with are some of the best in the game.
Hey I’ve been cussed out for suggesting Smedley left due to investors management pressures just like these situations describe. Sad thing is Landmark would make an amazing world builder like Minecraft all grown up! H1Z1 however..ugh it started with a solid premise which has turned into a pointless world hub with pay 2 access”events” NOT what was offered and NOT what I signed up for.
So much was/is wrong with planet side 2 that I simply can’t touch on them all. Suffice it to say they aren’t going to salvage the game at this point.
Madda Madda likes to honk horns!
Attempted to play this. Created an account, took 6 attempts just to get it to accept my password even though it fit all the criteria. Went to log in, didn’t accept the password. Waited, tried again, didnt like password, tried resetting the password and as of now after a week still haven’t managed to log in :/
