A volunteer-led effort to restore the original version of Darkfall is moving forward as unspecified negotiations with Aventurine continue.
The Darkfall: Rise of Agon team announced that it will be self-funding the licensing costs while looking to the community for donations for the game’s development and operation. The alpha test will take place over four to eight weeks and be completely free to players, while the subsequent beta will be limited to backers only.
Big Picture Games said that the team is poised to get rolling once an agreement is secured: “Our game servers are taking shape in New York and our development team and engineers are eagerly awaiting for us to have the signed license in hand so that they can get to work on development.”
I’m honestly amazed that DF is still alive, lol! It’s so crazy…. There are games that shut down way waaaaaaay earlier, but DF just cannot die, maybe it’s because they keep selling the same game over and over again… but amazing non the less.
I played the original DF back when it first launched until the game died down… Macroing all my skills.
Seems a bit premature to be talking about this before any agreements are signed honestly.
Koolthulu The biggest issue with the original DF was the adventurine imo. Â The core game was good imo they just didn’t seem to know what to do with it. Â So constant bad decision making lead to people leaving and never getting them back.
It gets hard to keep all these rise of the falling risens straight. People really need to be more creative with their names.
Always nice to see players trying to do stuff like this. I hope they can pull it off. But I also hope they have realistic goals in mind. After all if the original game had been doing that great, Aventurine wouldn’t have needed to reboot with Unholy Wars.
