LotRO’s Siege of Minas Tirith update ‘coming soon’

Turbine has published a website update that previews Lord of the Rings Online’s Update 17, otherwise known as the Siege of Minas Tirith.

The patch will add three new areas, two epic battles, new story quests, and new deeds, all designed for players at level 100 and up. Tolkien landmarks like the Pelennor Fields, Talath Anor, and the white city of Gondor will be explorable, and you’re sure to run into Mithrandir as you help protect Minas Tirith from the armies of Mordor.

The post doesn’t specify a launch date, though it does say that Update 17 is “coming soon.”

Slaphammer It’s always been like that. There are no more expansions to buy so VIP is becoming more valuable (or you can buy the areas with TP as usual).

Am I reading correctly on their preview page that you have to be VIP to get this update?  Isn’t that going to cause a lot of rage amongst the F2P community?  Or maybe they’ve done that before…I’ve been VIP forever so don’t usually notice stuff like this.

ShawnHargrave Montyman Monty’s right, you know. The game’s population is steadily growing since the olde days, not shrinking. People keep transferring to Brandywine or Landroval as the server cap increases.

Well if you look closer its actually a hardware upgrade and the reason for closing the servers is to populate all of them and not just 10 like now. 30 servers isnt necessary. Also its been stated clearly that the reason for fewer servers now is actually because of how many people they can hold now, not because of shrinking playerbases. A little research goes a long way bud :)

Montyman Yep, even if they get to Mordor, they could always keep going. Best lifetime sub deal I ever made.. now that they’re finally getting to Minas Tirith, I may rally the troops (my family) and go do all that content to catch up.

Argh. Sometimes, I wish you guys would make the links to the source articles a little easier to find. The whole linking back into keywords into your site? Never used one single time. Wanting to go find the source article? Pretty much every time I read one of yours. /sigh.

AilsaN10 No. I really don’t know why they wrote it that way. Level cap is 100, and probably staying there for a long time. (Though admittedly, I would like to see a cap raise just so there’s an excuse to add a new skill or rebalance the trees.)
