WRUP: The secret life of Harry, metaphorical construct for your journey of self-awareness edition

Hullo!

Hello, hello, what a joy it is to meet you. My name, as you’ll not momentarily bother to pause even a moment to learn, is Harry. I’m here solely to facilitate your journey to a greater understanding of yourself and the world around you, not to be treated as a person in any way whatsoever. I’d say “don’t worry about it, I’m happy to perform this important function,” but let’s be real here. You wouldn’t listen if I wasn’t happy anyhow, so I may as well just act out my part in your psychological puppet show, yes?

Oh, you are listening and you’re wondering where you might find me in your game of choice, hmm? Well, that’s just it — I take many forms. Perhaps I’m the mentor who dies in order to fulfill your need to be educated whilst conveniently removing myself before the possibility of correction. Or perhaps I’ll be the man or woman of your dreams who asks absolutely nothing of you, simply stands there mutely and approves of your rote actions and overly tailored gestures that you’re reading out of a strategy guide. I may even be a monster, something placed in your journey for you to overcome to derive the sense of self-worth for your unreal effort.

I may also be something else, some mindless task of tedium like planting and harvesting digital grapes that you may use to convince yourself that you’re above goal-focused play whilst demonstrating that you’re not above performing tasks that the computer’s processors can easily accomplish without your input. But I’m always there, you see. So tell me, dear reader, What Are You Playing this weekend?

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): Guild Wars 2, of course! Looking forward to logging some time with the guildies!

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): Unlike most of the people I know who play MMOs, I will not be adventuring in Tyria this weekend. Shocking, I know, but there’s stuff to be done in Final Fantasy XIV and World of Warcraft, and I’m the committed sort. I’m also idly playing through Life is Strange now that it’s finished, and I have one or two other projects I’d like to get rolling between various Halloween festivities.

Justin Olivetti (@Sypster, blog): There’s lots to be done with WildStar‘s dual events going through the weekend, so I’ll be smacking down Jack Shade and hoverboarding up the zones. When I’m not in there, I guess I’ll be continuing with Star Wars: The Old Republic‘s excellent expansion story. Don’t want to run out of it too fast, though!

MJ Guthrie (@MJ_Guthrie, blog): I’ll be trying to raise baby dinos in ARK: Survival Evolved, running a few hoverboard races in WildStar, and checking out Terraria for the first time. I need to get anything I want to do in games out of the way because next week is all about Halloween events! I will gorge on Halloween goodness in all the games.

Tina Lauro (@purpletinabeans): I don’t think I really need to answer this question. I am so bloody excited! As I write this, I’ve been up all night to watch the hype on Twitch despite having a pretty nasty flu. I’ll catch y’all in Tyria!

Thatchefdude: This weekend I’ll be finishing up Uncharted 2 while breaking into Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, and of course continuing the massive craft grind on a few classes in FFXIV. Really looking forward to Syndicate, it’s getting some of the best reviews in the series history. It’s also my one-year wedding anniversary this Monday, so any shoutouts would be much appreciated. Have to say that couples who games together stay together! Have a great weekend, everyone!

Your turn!
