ARK begins Fear Evolved event

13

For the next week, ARK: Survival Evolved is no more. Instead, the game has transformed into ARK: Fear Evolved for the Halloween season.

The island has transformed into something far more sinister for the occasion, and considering that this was a place where bloodthirsty dinosaurs roamed, that’s saying something. Now there’s the fearsome DodoRex, a creature that’s so imposing that the devs are hosting a contest to see which player can film a kill of the beast on a PvP server.

Players will encounter animated dino skeletons and zomdodos (zombie dodos, of course) while being given the opportunity to craft several new Halloween-themed items. The team even hinted that there will be crates out there with free game codes for friends. Unfortunately, friends are not included in the crates, so you’re on your own to procure those.

Check out the trailer below.

Lights_andMusic halldorr I think its great, personally. Something fresh to play with, and its not wasted time, this event will run every year.

Lights_andMusic AlanDev halldorr Here is an explanation from one of the devs. It lists a few of the ways that developing content for the Halloween event is helping development ans testing of the game systems as a whole.  Does not have to be one or the other, luckily for us.  :)

AlanDev Lights_andMusic halldorr I’m not suggesting they aren’t producing content.

I’m just saying it seems like an odd development choice.  One would assume any & all resources would be put toward launching the game, rather than developing temporary community events. Perhaps the idea being these events will bring in even more people to the EA?  Maybe this is pretty standard for EA games and I’m just unaware?

Lights_andMusic halldorr This game has blown out any other game in EA in terms of content, updates, communication, etc. If they switched to optimization and tidying things up for release right now they’d still have more content/fun than 99% of the stuff out there now.

They set the standard for both EA and released games, in terms of content. Any other survival game released will be compared to ARK.

Plus, this is easily a $50 – $60 game being sold for $30. RIGHT NOW. And, you can tell the devs are having fun developing it.

halldorr Lights_andMusic Seems odd to me to divert resources to holiday events when the game is still in Early Access, but I’m not playing it so I can’t really comment on any in-game developments – just seemed like a non-traditional design choice

Bums me out that the DoDoRex is so hard to find, No one on my private server found one last night. Also I think skely dinos need to be in less rare. I ran around the whole ark for over an hour last night, did not see a 1.
