Black Desert will start selling pre-orders soon but won’t be having an open beta

While more closed beta tests will be coming before Black Desert’s western launch early next year, Daum Games said that it will not be hosting an open beta.

In an interview from Paris Games Week, the studio announced that it will start to sell pre-order packages within the next few weeks and that these packs might contain closed beta access. Daum said that the western version will launch with only six of the classes (but will add more later) and that its updates will lag about three to six months behind those in Korea’s Black Desert.

We’ve got a new content trailer for you to check out after the break that shows many of the activities that you can enjoy in this sandbox — including horse taming. Saddle up!

I think, of I’m reading Osyris’ comment correctly, they don’t seem to be interested in PVP or any competition at all, but rather on social activities and RP.

This game would have to be Arkham Knight (PC) or Battlefield 4 launch levels of buggy for me to not buy it, even if I end up not liking it in the long run. I might as well pre-order for the beta access. At least I might have the potential to influence the development a little bit if I participate.

If you’re going to wait six to twelve months before playing don’t expect to be competitive in pvp for a long time after that.
It takes an average player over 6 months to upgrade to an even acceptable level for pvp and that’s something I don’t see them changing as it adds to longevity of the game for people who play a lot, and if they allow people to trade cash shop goods then it also adds to their income.
If however your not into pvp then it won’t be an issue or not as much at least. you still may get pk’d regularly.

I think many people are disappointed because they expect a different type of MMORPG. So far most players look for a theme park MMO, to fix their WoW-itch. BD does give you a little taste of that, but this is not their primary focus.

After playing the Russian OBT I even think that BD doesn’t want to emphasize any aspect too hard. They look for the kind of player who enjoy social and casual aspects of MMORPGs. One example I can think of is LOTRO, where players love to do player housing, gather up and play instruments or to simply RP. Pearl Abyss and Daum have just stated recently that they look for a different type of audience and I think this underlines my thoughts.

Personally, I am grateful that there will be a MMORPG like this, because I don’t have the time anymore to gather up for raids or to play regularly. And I think there is a huge (and quite) crowd that feels the same, because many of us who started with EQ or WoW are now in a certain situation: we love MMOs but we have other shit to do as well.

I won’t buy any pre-order packages though. I might even wait six to twelve months after the western release. After all, I started vanilla WoW after the same amount of time (Maraudon patch) and it was at that stage, when it was truly playable.

Vaeresyn Perfect Hero Besides from Buy to Play, what changes? I’m in the Alpha and we’re trying to get them to bring back the game they originally made. The game was made into a disappointment for anyone who wasn’t going to spend $100+ in Korea and actually wanted to play a game that lasted. They instantly targeted the mobile gamer crowd as soon as they swiped their credit cards in KR.

yeps because Steam has shown that people in the west will buy Early Access games with no content like the slew of zombie survival games filled with bugs … so might as well release a fully fleshed out game with novel features for money too.
