Battle Bards podcast listens to MMO character creation music

Battle Bards, the world’s first and only MMO music podcast, returns to listen to the oft-neglected character creation themes. What music do composers create for us to listen while we craft our MMO avatars? It turns out that there’s quite a wide range of tunes!

Battle Bards is a bi-weekly podcast that alternates between examining a single MMO’s soundtrack and exploring music tracks revolving around a theme. MOP’s Justin Olivetti co-hosts with bloggers Steff and Syl. The cast is available on iTunes, Stitcher, and Player.FM.

We’ve got Episode 62: Character Creation Music for you after the break!

I have said this before. Thanks to Syp, Steph, and Syl we have one of the most unique mmo related podcasts on the net! I have grown to really appreciate what a strong soundtrack can mean for mmo style games.

I love this podcast because I appreciate great OSTs in video games.  Some of them are better than others, of course, but many these days are outstanding.  Not only are they great to listen too, but they also give you a glimpse of how much thought and work are poured into games.

For this particular show, I was surprised to find that one of my favorite character creation tunes was included, a variation AA’s Fertile Plains.  The music is used elsewhere in-game too, but it does hit’s you straight away in the character screens and sets a great tone IMO.  It is optimistic and hopeful and yes, a little over the top.

Ooh I hope Champions Online is in it. The entire musical sequence that played in the creator (not at the tailor in MC, the actual creator) has some pretty excellent bits.

A relatively simple, awesome feature of EverQuest’s character creation was how the theme’s instrumentation changed depending on the race selected. I’m always surprised to have not seen anything like that since then.

One of my favorite character creation tracks was from City of Heroes’ expansion, Going Rogue.
