World of Warships adds new maps, game mode, and more

Wargaming’s latest press release promises “a tidal wave of content” courtesy of the latest World of Warships update. The 0.5.1 patch adds three new maps — including the game’s first night map — as well as a new game mode called “zone.” In a nutshell, it pits two teams against one another for control of a single giant base in the middle of the map.

The patch also adds “events, challenges, missions, and daily missions,” Wargaming says. Finally, ranked battles feature more rewards in the form of flags, and new intro missions have been added to the game’s tutorial.

“Zone is a huge base in the center of a map that becomes available for
capture two minutes after the battle has started. It takes 60 seconds to
capture the Zone, regardless of the number of capturing ships. The
capturing will slow down when there are enemy ships within the Zone.
However damage received by ships does not slow down the capturing”
Um… won’t that just end up as a huge fustercluck in the middle of the map, with torpedoes so thick in the water you could walk on them?

Armsbend luxundae DahkohtLewin Yah, I dropped back to the Cleveland after several weeks of insane repair costs. I mean, I wasn’t doing anything different gameplay wise.

Hell, I think the St. Louis was probably the funnest cruiser.

Yesterday I thought “Hmm, maybe time to get into some wargaming, starting off with WoP”.

It’s not 18 hours later and I have yet to find a nick that is not taken. What is the the kids say at this point, FML?

luxundae It isnt a bad thing the game is a fun collect-a-thon or played seriously.  I played it both ways for the better part of a year until I got sick of gold rounds and new branches only to slow down people who already had multiple T10s.

Damonvile ehhh I dont know it is like endgame anything.  Some people just want to play a game to win and having the highest tier weapon ensures you won’t be going against a higher tiers with higher speed/pen/armor/whatever.

I am glad to hear about punishment for border line huggers. This will greatly decrease exploiters.

DahkohtLewin Not even close to being true, I am almost done with the Tier 8 IJN Battleship Amagi and will be on Tier 9 Izumo next.  So far it has been 190 ish battles.  Sure enough the xp required increases steeply but I don’t imagine more than another 100 battles will be needed.

Also, you get rewarded with flags for achievements, save all the extra xp ones for one you get to tier 9 and it becomes much less of a grind.

Armsbend luxundae DahkohtLewin It’s exactly like WoT in that respect. If you don’t pay and don’t own a premium ship you’re in for a massive grind to earn enough to pay for the higher tier ships. But… like I said above, if you’re in a race to get to 10 you’re doing this game wrong.

That and I have little sympathy for anyone that wants fast and free in a game.

Armsbend luxundae DahkohtLewin In WoWS, T8 no longer see T5s.

World of Warships 5.0 Update Matchmaking Changes

All the recommendations I read are that the sweat spot for earning credits is T5 & T6, even if you own a T10 ship.   Those games are almost always credit positive and can be quite lucrative.
