Black Desert’s North American website and forums launch

Black Desert’s English-language website has just gone live. It’s a bit bare right now, though Daum is hyping videos from Paris Games Week.

The site includes user registration and newsletter signups, but official forums have been slightly delayed. On Reddit, Daum CMs told players,

There is always that last minute bug. I see our devs are working hard to bring back the new forums online. If they manage to rapidly squish the bug, I’ll high five them for you! I’ll post again here once I have an update about the forums.

Sirly I’m guessing it has to do with the audience. I get the impression that Korean MMO players are pretty hardcore about their MMOs and are more likely to drop cash on shop purchases than the American audience. We are very fickle and if a free game flops, it’s nothing but wasted effort. At least they get some kind of return out of it this way. Besides, this method worked for Guild Wars, maybe they decided to give it a shot but realized Korea isn’t the place to test that.

Osyris Probably because it’s run by NA players (this is a guess) and it’s target audience is NA. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. Just a thought.

I really don’t understand why Massively has such a bias towards NA. The site that has been mentioned in this article is also for other regions (the site is in German as well, for example). This behavior is going on for years now and I have no idea why the journalists are barely mentioning countries outside NA.

Leilonii KratoSx so glad to hear, gives me a bit of hope for the game.
It isn’t that f2p can’t work, it is that I have never seen it work to a standard that I can accept.

Leilonii Sirly What are you talking about. Everything bad from a f2p game is still there.

PaganRites They’ve been working on it for a while, so it’s not like they just started lol. And they have already made a number of game changes with more to come. They’ve been not only receptive to feedback but have been actively asking for it.

Themi KratoSx There are no starter packs, it’s just a standard box like any other game.

KratoSx Leilonii When I say nobody wants a F2P I mean the people that actually follow this game. The fanbase has been extremely happy to see that BDO is B2P.

We’ve also been campaigning hard for other game changes – to the cash shop, to get rid of selling cash shop items on the AH, to severely restrict player to player trade, and fix the gear curve – to get rid of any potential for P2W. The NA/EU BDO community is very unified on a lot of things, one of which is the payment model. Sorry bud but your cheap P2W loving ass is in the minority, here.

PaganRites well, translate a game and only few things are changed from korean cash shop. Game will be the same like korean since we have same publisher, so dont expect something diferent.

KratoSx +1 And now DAUM want to sell us those Starter Packs typical from F2P mmo’s. Let’s see if in 6 months Black Desert goes F2P model.
