Yep, Borderlands Online is a goner

Take-Two has confirmed rumors of Borderlands Online’s demise, as well as the closure of its 2K China studio and the firing of approximately 150 staff.

“We determined that the additional time required to finish current projects at the studio, particularly Borderlands Online, would not yield a favorable return on investment,” the publisher told GamesIndustry.biz. The firm also stated that the closures and layoffs did not extend to its office in Singapore as rumored on various Chinese websites earlier this week.

Caec As someone who writes an english webnovel, my second largest readerbase is Chinese.  The internet is a small place.  This is MMO news, not MMOs that are in English news.  And, as I have mentioned before here, though everyone who read’s this site clearly knows English, not everyone here is monolingual, so some of us have the ability to enjoy games in other languages.
Also, what’s going on internationally with MMOs can be a sign of what’s to come in western MMOs.  F2P models and microtransactions have their roots in China and Korea among other innovations (including isometric mmos).   New staple features of future Western MMOs may already be out there in foreign MMOs, and seeing the edge of development in the whole world gives us readers a bigger picture of where our favorite industry is going.

It was a dumb idea. They should hire me to be that guy who tells them when they are being stupid.

Caec I’m interested in video games and I like to learn about the “easternization” of western games and gaming habits in different countries like China.
So, yes, some MOP readers are interested in this kind of news (at least one of them). ;-)

Out of curiosity, does MOP have a Chinese reader-base? If not, I’ve always wondered why games no reader is going to play is news (or, rather, why some games no reader is going to play is news, while the plethora of other games no reader is going to play is not news).
