Now you can sign up to test the Darkfall: Rise of Agon reboot

Rise of Agon is one of two fan-driven reboots currently in the works for classic Darkfall. Aventurine’s fantasy PvP sandbox has fallen on hard times in recent years, but a group calling itself Big Picture Games has published a signup page for its forthcoming alpha test, which it describes as having limited slots.

Big Picture has also produced a brief trailer, which may make you a bit nostalgic for Darkfall’s huge, seamless, and hand-crafted world. Or it may make you think, wow, I don’t remember it looking that bad. Either way, you can view it after the cut.

Reihen Zariarn That may or may not be true, I don’t care to know, lol.  The only thing appealing to either game is the visuals of the new one.  Just my two cents.

Freeform inventory management incoming!
Also, they better have the original ambient soundtrack there. Although it was mostly turned off due to the need for listening for footsteps.

Reihen Zariarn How can it be an emulation of the original if they licensed the original source code / engine / game and got permission to relaunch the original game?  Also as far as a lot of bugfixes goes.  How is that possible if just a few weeks ago they where still in talks to get the licenses for the game?  I mean they litterly just got the licenses so there is no way they have done a lot of buf fixing. I imagine its going to be atleast a month or two before they are upto speed on how to work with the source code, cause you are looking at millions of lines of code with commits not writting in english. So they are going to have to translate the commits to english or manually figure out all the code.

None of it is a small feat and you are looking at some time just to get upto speed. Now its easy for them to get a server up and running as the original devs will help them get that setup. But the original devs are not going to take there time to explain and train them on the source code.

I was taking a drink as I heard “vastness and beauty” spoken in the video. Needless to say my sinuses are burning and my monitor needs cleaning.
