DOTA 2’s Korean server shutting down, Valve to take over

Ah...huh.

Nexon will no longer be handling Dota 2 in Korea, as the publisher announced that it will be shutting down the MOBA’s server in the country soon. The last day for Dota 2’s operation on Nexon’s servers will be Thursday, December 10th.

Fortunately for Korean Dota 2 players, this will not spell the end of their game experience. Nexon said that over the next month it will be working with Valve to transfer all accounts and information to Steam’s own server so that players can continue to enjoy the game through that digital platform.

Nexon is probably getting ready to announce a MOBA or launch one.

Armsbend Dota is lagging far behind in Korea. It’s possible Valve sees opportunities Nexon missed, or wants more control over how its game is represented.

Pahlzy  ’cause Nexon is a big name in Korea.  Valve likely was resorting to outsourcing for the Korean version, saw that it wasn’t being handled well, and decided to put their big boy pants on and actually do something about it.

Armsbend Maybe, as with the majors, Valve is looking to take more control over things which directly affect how the game performs and is perceived – just guessin.

Wouldn’t (isn’t) DOTA2 really popular over there?  Why would they not want to run the servers?  Valve fees I suppose.
