Guild Wars 2’s first raid wing launches next week

ArenaNet has just announced that Spirit Vale, the first wing of Guild Wars 2’s first post-expansion raid, is launching next week on November 17th. Says the studio,

“Starting with Spirit Vale, players will quickly discover that raids in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns are all about the same distinct game play mechanics that they have come to appreciate in the core game, with action-oriented combat where success is based on skill and the focus is on real-time strategies. Conquering the challenges in Heart of Thorns raids will require active strategies, not UI-gazing, with weapon and ability changes on the fly, skill combos, dodge rolling, and positioning for attacks being keys for conquering the content. One of the main aspects of game play in Guild Wars 2 is the versatility of each profession in the game, including the ability for all professions to heal. This will give raiders a large amount of freedom with party composition without reliance on the conventional tank, healer and damage dealer ‘trinity’ to take on challenges.”

The enhanced squad UI, which allows groups of 10 to 50 people, also arrives with the raid.

The plot:

Allies in Need – A Pact squad has gone missing in northern Maguuma, and you and your allies are their only hope for recovery. But the deadly forest isn’t the only risk to the rescue operation—the area holds dark secrets and strange magic.

As promised, raid rewards include thematic ascended armor, minipets, weapons, skins, and eventually, the path to legendary armor. The update is free, and so are these screenshots!

I know I a bit late to this party but I hope raiding works well because many of the other changes & new “features” are not much more than a flaming bag of dog poo. Here is a list the things that are considered broken/unpopular changes.

The new WvW maps and the changes to WvW Guild interactions forcing decided WvW players to do PvE content of afforded WvW.
Guild Mission becoming buggy & broken.
Dungeon gold nerf and the Fractal Item drop nerf. (also fractal lockboxes)
The Increased materials cost for crafting armor with ascended gear being the balance standard for raids.
The vertically and channeling effect of many of the new zones.
The ridiculous expense of guild upgrades & cosmic items.

Thanks all I can think of at the moment but there is one thing that has the potential to blow up and that is Scribing.
Because it takes a guilds effort in resource collection to fund but it is skill learned by an individual player it gives then too much power that is easily abused. What prevents the player from selling his newly acquired skills to the highest bidder. NOTHING. Telling their old guild so long and thanks for all the fish. Charging a guild to make anything for them or even to stay around. Just put your EVE corp politics hat on & think of all the possibilities.

breetoplay Superbrak Heh… looks like someone needs to fix their inter-office communication. At least I hope that’s all it was.

slavetoguilt Damonvile If you’re going to accuse Blizz of pandering, you kinda have to accuse Anet of pandering 10 times more.
Not that I would do either because it’s not pandering.

Quincha AdeptusEnginus Superbrak borghive Gnomeland Security Wasn’t there a specific quote about some big employee in a specific game about raiding population being like, 10% of the total game, and which why that specific game was going to focus less on raiding?
I can’t remember what game was, i guess LotRO? Gonna take a look.

Midgetsnowman Pretty much. And when you cant glitch or trivilialize bosses in GW2, the fights are just so poorly designed. I have no hate or love for GW2 but objectively the PVE designers in Anet are just weak. And its kinda funny how Anet’s whole “anti-raid” stance crumbled. My brother is playing the expansion and so i’ve dabbled with his characters and its just a complete and resounding “meh, atleast theres no sub fee” experience. The art and animation team of GW2 are still fucking god’s of the industry. But the gameplay… meh
