Compare and contrast the Warcraft movie trailer to the same areas in World of Warcraft

I'm not sure which set of CGI looks better. That's not good.

The landscapes of the upcoming Warcraft movie are not unfamiliar to veterans of World of Warcraft. Heck, they’re not even unfamiliar to dabblers within World of Warcraft, as many of these locations are ones encountered within moments of logging into the game for the first time. Fan Aerial51zd took the opportunity to compare the landscapes on display in the film’s recent trailer to the same regions in World of Warcraft.

Obviously, the caveat would be that WoW takes place three decades after the events of the movie and is a decade old itself at this point, so some of the details are different. No conclusions are drawn by the comparison imagery, but you can check out the full set of images and draw your own conclusions. Or watch the movie trailer again, if you want.

I think it’s also important to make note that the stuff we see in WoW or in the games are really not up to a realistic scale. Stormwind is suppose to be this big bustling cityscape for instance, but it’s only as big as a couple of football fields in WoW.

niwaar  How do you know that is flying? Dalaran has got a very high and thin towers with some parts floating in the middle of the air… you can see it in Warcraft 3 , when Archimonde is going to destroy it.

PurpleCopper There’s a lot of what I will assume (and hope) are unfinished shots in the trailer (this happens a lot actually).

Poor chroma keying and lacking a lighting and color pass to make certain people and CG stuff feel integrated in the shot.

niwaar The only people that should be allowed to ride gryphons at this time are DWARVES. Movie not canon.

Sorenthaz  Isn’t the presence of harvest golems a mistake?  I thought those things were built by the Venture Company goblins that were supporting the Defias.  They wouldn’t have been there during the first war.

Looks great, actually. I’m good with a retelling as long as it still gives the source material respect.
