Have fun in TERA’s bonus weekend: Your generosity made it happen

Can we donate to some sort of pants charity?
En Masse Entertainment, the company behind TERA, took part in the Extra Life charity drive this year and wound up raising nearly $10,000 total. That means bonuses for all players, and thus a bonus weekend is running right now until November 16th at 2 p.m. EST. Hooray for charity!

All players can enjoy a 25% increase in experience earned from killing enemies in the world along with a maximum Stamina increase to 135. Players can also accept more daily quests during the event, with Standard accounts bumped up to 15 per day and Elite accounts set at 30 per day. That makes this a good weekend to jump into the game if you want to reap the benefits of charitable action.

A Dad Supreme I wouldn’t worry about it. I’ve seen a single streamer on Twitch.tv and their community raise over $50,000 for these charities, another raised around $20,000 (I forget how much that particular streamer raised).

The only issue this raises is why didn’t the Tera players raise more? Less than $10,000 is pretty sad for such a large group, especially when stream communities raise multiples beyond this.

ManastuUtakata I feel your pain. You either have to solo it or you have to put together a group the old fashion way to do it.

A Dad Supreme Baemir Pretty sad people questioning about the amount of charity money isn’t good enough. Who cares how big a mmo is? The important point here is that it’s doing for a good cause.

It just seems an extremely small sum for a well-known MMO that’s been out a few years. I would have expected a sum that small to come from something like DDO, which is why I was wondering about it’s population or game-health.

“Why are you even comparing  them in such a way when they have no real connection?
The Star Citizen dude worked extra jobs to pay for something he enjoys.”

As said, I’m not criticizing the man. I agree and have said in the original thread, it’s his money and he can do with it what he wills.
The ‘connection’ to me is I was asking why one game’s entire population of thousands can barely muster up 10K in donations, while another guy can foot 3x that amount just to help make a game.
Again, not criticizing either one, just one of those things in life that gives me pause with humans and choices.

Baemir A Dad Supreme I don’t think 230 million in 2013 ( the last public numbers I’ve seen) is super niche. And a rather ironic comparison when star wars made 165 million that year.

Now, I have a problem with this…
…as when you are doing the story quests that lead you into the dungeons, hits a huge catch22 wall when your LFG option for that dungeon becomes no longer eligible. And the option of soloing it does not allow you to complete the story quest. So am I expected to solo it on 5 person mode after the fact? o.O
Either way and my point, XP boosting only adds to that bloody frustration. :(

A Dad Supreme Tera is super niche compared to Star Citizen. One game is basically Star Wars, while the other is about little girls in skimpy outfits. $10k is actually higher than I’d have expected.

The Star Citizen dude worked extra jobs to pay for something he enjoys and it is entirely up to him what he does with his money or whether he donates to charity or not.   Contrasting one activity to the other is unfair especially when you know nothing about the person beyond that he really like Star Citizen and is prepared to put in the hours so he can enjoy it.  His life, his choice and his priorities.

I watched some of the En Masse Extra Life stream and tweeted about it (as I did for the Trion stream and ArenaNet stream.) Also did the same for the commentator from massivelyop who ran a stream / extra life event.  They all worked really hard to raise the money they did and I am sure every penny will be very much appreciated by the children’s hospitals that eventually receive it. Again though their lives, their choices and their priorities.
