Neverwinter’s Underdark is available now, Astral Diamond economy is being examined

Now if it were UnderTALE you might have something.
As of today, Neverwinter players are going underground. Not in the sense that they’re becoming very obscure, but in the sense that the Underdark expansion is available for the game. The centerpiece is the story of this particular dark-delving adventure with Drizzt Do’Urden, but there’s also a new 10-player encounter, new skirmishes, and plenty of quests and quality-of-life improvements. You can take a gander at much of it in the feature trailer just below.

If you’re more concerned about the state of the game’s economy, you’ll be happy to know that the developers are also concerned with the state of Astral Diamonds. As it stands, the economies of the game’s PC version and Xbox versions are wildly different, but there’s also a distinct issue with the challenge involved in earning this currency. The current plans are to increase the amount of diamonds earned, increase daily refinement limits, and greatly decrease the price of upgrading companions; more changes will be made based on how these first changes affect the exchange rate and overall gameplay.

FeveredDreamer And trying out my old fav zone, Dread Ring, i now feel like a chew toy for the mobs. It feels like the whole extra cooldown on healing items was a last minute knee jerk move that has basically turned every fight into a mess.

Rozyn Senjin92 Your going to need the healer. Even though they toned it down since release, the post-60 mobs everywhere hit like trucks. Dump your old gear, grab everything you can find with HP bonuses, and dust of that healer companion. And even then you will have fight after fight where you are busy running around in circles while waiting for the option to cool down (they lengthened that one as well as basically trashing regeneration and life steal gear).

FeveredDreamer digi_owl After having finished said grind, and gotten underdark unlocked, the whole thing feels MEH.
You get a “city” map with some vendors and a campfire (and a whole lot of empty space), some skirmishes (two of them seem to reuse maps made for the storyline), and a few heroic encounters dotted around existing “end game” zones (thus massively screwing up the flow of said zones).
It feels like ever since that dragon update they have either sacked all but a skeleton crew, or reassigned everyone to STO. They are reusing stuff all over the place, massively overinflating the mobs, and generally just being meh. I was hoping to explore some underdark caves, but all i see are places i have seen over and over and over.

Senjin92 Rozyn Oh it’s not for end game, just soloing in the campaigns and whatnot. I have an ioun stone for group stuff. At least they get back up when they die though, unlike at launch when they were totally useless lol.

Part of me hopes that the economy being addressed will help solve some of the major issues with Gear Acquisition; namely how content is brutal without decent Rares/Epics, but obtaining them without spending real money is… an onerous task.

Then I remember that the previous limit of 25,000 a day only increased to 36,000 a day… Which is not difficult to hit at all and still will not let most players actually refine enough raw AD from their adventures to afford anything for weeks.

Rozyn teppic Coming off my two year bender of Neverwinter (it launched on my birthday!), I can assure you that Yeti WILL NOT be ready for the end game. Most of the pets below Epic Quality just get neutered inside of dungeons. And even the Legendary Quality pets tend to be more useful solely for their passive Equip Bonuses than anything else.

teppic Rozyn I almost edited my comment but ran out of time – I don’t even have a lvl 70 I was just going off of what I’ve read from other people asking about BiS gear and OP builds. Should have clarified that. I’m pretty casual, lvl 66 and can’t even do the old campaigns since my character wasn’t grandfathered in. I’m curious how I’ll fare at lvl 70, got a yeti for cheap and he’s tanking pretty well but we shall see! I play solo for the most part, the most money I spent was on one month of VIP which I sell my lockbox junk for AD on the auction house lol. I have zero plans of throwing real money at gear, it’ll be interesting how it goes later haha. Okay I’m rambling.

teppic Just as a minor point of order I get that the P2W stuff with Neverwinter will never die but at least in part this is no longer accurate.  BiS armors are BoP currently, which kind of by default suggests folks have to play to earn them.

digi_owl The 60-70 grind is definitely enough to drive people away even if all the other issues with Neverwinter aren’t.  In some games, games with a soft cap for instance that sort of grind makes sense… in a game where “endgame” begins at 70 it seems like insanity to have people grind the same set of quests over and over again to level.

Meh. The much talked about quest line is a mess (boss with instakill attacks that has its tells obscured by the terrain) and will not help with the grind from 60 to 70 what so ever.
