If you’ve got five-plus hours to kill and you’re a fan of Guild Wars 2, you might enjoy checking in with the Heart of Thorns launch megastream. ArenaNet has published the lengthy session on YouTube, and it looks back at the past nine months of lead-up to the game’s first expansion. The stream features developer guests including producer Tre Fitzgerald, producer Brian Cautrell, game director Colin Johanson, and host Rubi Bayer.

Take a look after the cut!

I was watching/listening to it off of another stream, Aurora Peachy’s Launch Slumber Party.  You could tell the devs were getting more and more buzzed as the night went on.

melissaheather I’m not going to say there’s not better looking MMO’s out there, but I don’t think there’s many, and the majority of them are probably still in beta as of now. Just please tell me you don’t play WoW. THAT is a game that definitely looks dated. Characters are almost like playing something out of old He-Man cartoons. ;)

melissaheather There is literally no non-Korean MMO’s out there with better graphics than GW2. Sure, MMO’s trail behind other genres in the graphics department by their very nature but Tyria still looks beautiful by any standard. And the new HoT’s maps even more so.

That is almost always one of the first things any review mentions, how beautiful the world is. Even if the review is unfavorable for other reasons.

melissaheather I wasn’t aware that there were any new major franchise releases in the MMO genre to make GW2 look dated, educate me.

It is entirely my fault.  I just want to say that up front.   GW2 is a great game and I have enjoyed playing it a lot.    But when I logged in the other day, I looked around, i zoomed in and out of camera, i looked at myself, i tapped my finger on the mouse a moment, and I thought to myself, “this game looks dated.”   I like it, but why don’t I play it?  (kicks pebble with shoe and stares off into space)…

Oh, Guild Wars 2, the game I want to like but cannot. I picked up Heart of Thorns however, it is just not the game for me. I have played quite a few action based MMOs, yet, I just can’t commit to the combat in GW2. I find the combat system to be a confusing mess, even with the new player experience they added.
I feel they need to add a better dodge tutorial. After playing off and on since launch, I still for the life of me cannot determine when to dodge an attack from a mob. Looking for their special attack animation to dodge is a challenge in itself.
Also before the xpac, I played because it was one of the few games that didn’t offer raids as an endgame. Now with the new raids being the big feature just pushes me further away from the game.
I will still play off an on to see if it clicks with me but I fear that I am more attracted to amazing art design in the game than the game itself which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It is quite a beautiful game.
