Shroud of the Avatar’s Release 24 is here and it’s added a lot of stuff

21

Crowdfunded fantasy sandbox Shroud of the Avatar has made its latest patch available to backers as of this morning. Originally, Release 24 was supposed to be fairly light in terms of content and focused instead on bug-fixing, polishing, and performance optimization. As producer Starr Long explains in his Release 24 instruction post, that’s not exactly what happened.

It’s a lengthy read, and it has to be to cover additions as diverse as new weather types, combat balance adjustments and new skills, new creatures and musical instruments, NPC renaming, and more.

mindshadow Union Jack There are a plethora of games that have continually improved on such a basis, simply because its being developed. To expect anything less is ridiculous and to see it as anything more shows complete ignorance to the monumental work so many other developers have completed. You just inadvertently, because of your ignorance, insulted every hard working developer that ever was, bravo.

Recondelta ChockFull You did not contribute to or create a new string to a conversation, you simply wrote an advertisement. Remove the rose colored glasses and step away from the soapbox, they don’t do you any favors.

Union Jack Meh, so you’re not a fan.  I’m also not a fan of some parts of the game and don’t agree with some of the decisions they’ve made (especially around pledges and add on store)…but consider this:  24 consecutive monthly releases of new features, content and fixes (and tons of bugs), 151 consecutive weekly newsletters giving status update to all backers (and advertising Add On Store junk), monthly video hangouts talking about the game (including occasional telethons), etc.

If anything these guys are consistently producing and showing where all that crowd funding is going — unlike some shady campaigns where they go dark and you don’t hear from them for weeks or even months on end.

I can’t say if they’ll ultimately make a great game, but at least I know they’ll consistently deliver a new Release each month, even if it takes another 24 months to finish the thing.

nahenway Recondelta Meaning similar items in the game will be just as expensive with in-game gold.  So either way you’re spending many hours at your job to earn the cash or many hours in the game to earn gold to pay for those items.  Take your pick.

Recondelta  “Yes it is Buy to Play.  Some of the items are expensive”

Funny but a worthless comment that adds nothing of value to the conversation.

Recondelta The above is an approved advertisement by the Richard Garriott foundation for the advancement of Richard Garriott games ***with the exception of POTBS, we have no desire to do anything with that***

Shroud of the Avatar is for everyone tired of the endless Korean grinders, boring theme park, micro transactions, gambling boxes, gear chasing, nonsense the current MMO industry pushes out with few exceptions.

If you want mindless grinds with pretty shiny graphics look someplace else. If you want a sandbox with deep character development, a devoted community, and exploration this is your game and its shaping up to be something very special.

Yes it is Buy to Play.  Some of the items are expensive but almost anything can be obtained in game in some form.   You can choose to grind gold for your housing or spend a few hundred.  The rest of the items can be crafted with just different graphics and colors but similar functionality.

This team has consistently delivered, mostly on time, and on schedule.   Each month has been substantial progress and the final product is certainly deliverable.

I don’t trust this guy as far as I can spit…If this guy produced the goods as fast as he talks he would have more credibility, IMO he’s living in the past and lacks the talent  and needs to retire from the industry and stop ripping people off.
