Devilian begins final closed beta test and previews the Shadowhunter

The finish line for Devilian’s western test cycle is fast approaching, as the game entered into its fourth and final closed beta yesterday.

The big hook for the beta test is the addition of Devilian’s open world PvP mode. Players looking for some fierce competitive action can both fight over a special area called the Hunting Grounds or look for control points across the world. The developers have also created a special class PvP mode that throws teams of players against each other but forbids them from using their powered devilian forms.

Trion Worlds also published a two-minute video giving an overview of the Shadowhunter class, which you can watch below.

Tried the beta thanks to the beta key you guys supplied us with (Thanks again, I love when you guys give us the opportunity to try out a game before investing money into it).  I found it to be alright, but certainly nothing groundbreaking or phenomenal.  The graphics are certainly nice, but that alone is not enough to pull my attention from Path of Exile to this.

Red Alert  Wratts Liandreth Greaterdivinity That’s cool, I was just wondering if there were some really unique systems introduced later.  Felt like 30 minutes with the game told me what I needed to know, but sometimes you get surprised

You’re really pushing this game hard.

So, a Diablo 3 clone. Or Path of Exile clone. Or Marvel Heroes clone.

ashfyn How can a person not appreciate gravity defying boobs that practically break the laws of PhysX?

Wratts Liandreth Greaterdivinity Yes there is. It’s called personal preference. Otherwise you haven’t missed anything extremely innovative or groundshaking. The game utilizes all the usual tropes that you can find in other asian mmos but with an isometric point of view. It is what it is. You either like it or not.

Liandreth Greaterdivinity Just curious, what’ the charm?  Spent a couple minutes in beta and my immediate opinion was “Diablo or PoE without the charm”.  Is there something special that’s not immediately obvious?

ashfyn It was almost worth the entire $1 donation to Humble to get in the CB.
I was in awe of the breathing breasts too.  During that very first tutorial quest where the camera starts on a captured NPC focused on her enormous bust my first thought was “well, I guess they aren’t going for the ‘rescue her out of sympathy’ vote”

I’ve nicknamed this game “Breathing Breasts”  and wonder how much dev time was spent getting that effect going; you know, the straining of metal armor by a pair of bulging breasts apparently inflated by every breath.  Do all juvenile males imagine women breath into their breasts?  Can someone fill me in on the fantasy here?  Granted, I’m in my 60s, but when I was in my 20s I never wore a bra and I don’t remember having quite that much trouble keeping my halter tops on.

As to the actual game–another Asian auto-run, silly quest string, resurrected godlike avatar, stale combat game.  I actually found it pretty disappointing.  Another cash shop, tiny inventory, lots of crap, log in reward, attempt at addiction with some hack n slash thrown in to make it seem worthwhile.
