Camelot Unchained reveals gloomy Spirit Mages and glam faces

122

Friday evening, Camelot Unchained revealed its eighth class triplet, the dark and sinister Spirit Mages:

  • The Slaughterwolf (Vikings): Summons and commands a pack of pissed-off spirit wolves.
  • The Morrigan (Tuatha Dé Danaan): Summons and commands spectral crows, cows, and wolves, “feed[ing] off the death around them.”
  • The Dread Caller (Arthurians): Masters of tainted souls. “These dark mages power their spirit magic with the souls of those convicted of crimes.”

In the game’s most recent newsletter, studio boss Mark Jacobs further noted that CSE has “successfully loaded [its] first ‘large map’ into the game.” It’s “sixteen times as large” as the current map and is being tested by alpha participants this very weekend.

The newsletter also contains a new lore piece and a shot of some of the faces being worked on. Check out that image and the whole Spirit Mage stream reveal below.

Can you control your character with:
-WASD keys
or

-arrow keys
or are both methods an option ?

Loooove the mythology reference in the choice of the Morrigan’s summons. This is definitely one I’m going to try as a Tuatha alt c:

Foggye GrimLegionary Hey, if you want to go spend all your money on booze/drugs and then recreate the plot of ‘Dude, Where’s My Car?’ (or should that be ‘Duke, Where’s My Cart?’), that’s your business. :-P

Yeah, scouts for sure are the bane of mmo’s.  They typically fall into godly in pvp and nigh useless in pve.  A real tickler to balance for both.  Mages are a pain to balance in PVP too but fall in line much better than scouts in PVE.
And of course I’m sure you know that I am not telling you not to make the game you want to make.  I was just pointing out that a lot of these class tweaks would make for really interesting PVE.
@foggye at the risk of sounding unintentionally abrupt, I can’t help but say that I have heard all of that song and dance before.  Of course I will hold out hope but they are trying to buck extensive history.  Lots of things have been done to try and fix PVP issues that end up just moving the goal posts and typically in a cyclical fashion.  They may find, that others often do, that whatever time savings they earn from omitting questing etal ends up being spent on that cyclical PVP tweaking.  One need only look at Warhammer Online .  They refused to give up the cyclical RVR tweaks  at the cost of everything else including their successes.

Foggye GrimLegionary Llokki Thanks. I really didn’t want to go down the typical (or even Dark Age of Camelot) route for this Realm. I think I/we have done a really great job of both being inspired by lore and creating a unique body of work for this Realm. More coming. :)

EpicViking Thanks. I was very happy when I found the reference to Vikings as wolves of slaughter. Perfect fit. :)

ZenDadaist Thanks! I think that they are pretty cool too, but I’m a bit biased. :)

Dread Caller definitely made me sit up and take notice. One to add to the Alts list.

I’m a huge fan of the whole Pack mentality the wolves seems to get. While my favorite Viking class so far is the Winter’s Shadow (anything rangerish with camoflauge is a win in my book) and Skald. Slaughterwolf sure adds yet another awesome class to the Viking roster!
