Guild Wars 2 hints at WvW overhaul as WvW dev departs studio

A big revamp of Guild Wars 2’s world vs. world mode is in the works according to a Reddit post by Lead Developer Colin Johanson.

Johanson was responding to a query about possible Engineer legendaries, to which he said that the team has had bigger projects on its plate: “The reality is we need the bulk of our own internal engineers (coders!) to continue to focus on stuff like our major WvW overhaul right now we’ve been working on for over a year that’s much higher priority for the game overall.”

World vs. world has seen significant changes with Heart of Thorns, including a new map and a restructuring of its guild objectives system.

As Massively OP commenter Dystopiq has pointed out, Johanson’s comments come just as ArenaNet’s WvW design lead, Devon Carter, departs the studio. “It’s generally the case that there will be no comments about internal stuff like this,” Carter wrote on Reddit. “For a variety of reasons, but, that’s just the reality of things. WvW will continue to be an important part of the game.”

Ahahahah. Really you were outnumbered by the 10-15 FA and 10-15 SoS that you guys spawn camp daily for months with your two separate blobs of 50?

Oskiee McGuffn More specifically Engineer’s core mechanic of kits replacing your weapon means that any legendaries you have equipped are hidden the entire time you’re using kits, which is a lot of the time.

SoMuchMass Still drinking the hateraid I see. Too bad GW2 is crazy successful even without your hate. Must hurt.

If PvP can influence my PvE gameplay, I’m out. I’m not going to spend any money on games that allow PvP to ruin my PvE experience.

How, keeping it to duels? Or perhaps making players able to opt out of being attacked, allowing them to go anywhere without player opposition?

Because if a player can be attacked without giving his explicit consent to fight — including if by choosing to not engage in PvP the player is prevented from doing any PvE content — then it’s not consensual anymore.

Lhumierre in a weird way, you just asked if WvW is still organized.

In prime time, there is normally multiple commanders and groups. People still follow a commander because it’s the simplest way to organize. Otherwise, you roam, scout, or gank.

I used to love WvW so much… but the main issue of the last 1+ year just aggravted me to no end. Our server, Yaks Bend, is ALWAYS outnumbered by the other servers several times. It is just no fun that EVERY SINGLE TIME your group/zerg meets a zerg 5 times as many who simply steamroll you. And for over a damn year.
Until Anet finds a way to solve that, I am out.

Seems like this expansion is a beta.  Screwed over early adopters big time.

Smiggins MassivelyMacD BritoBruno So you seriously don’t know that open world consists of maps? Or what is your “term” for the area you run around in?

People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones, I guess.
