WRUP: Entirely too much about bears edition

BEARS BEARS BEARS

I am legitimately fascinated by bears in video games. Not just because I love bears, although that’s true too. I’m fascinated because in the real world, bears are the closest thing we have to an end boss. They’re enormous piles of claws and muscle that can knock your head off without even trying very hard. And yet most games treat bears as just whatever, not tremendously dangerous, often low-level enemies.

I’m just saying, if I see a guy walking around with a pet bear, my reaction should not be “ah, that’s a Hunter pet, excellent tank choice.” My reaction should have more to do with being aware that any gentleman with a bear as a walk-around pet is no one to mess with.

What Are You Playing is not an exercise open to bears, chiefly because very few bears are able to operate keyboards. But I’m guessing most of the people reading right now are not bears, and you are more than welcome to let us know what you’re playing down in the comments. If you are a bear, you can still let us know, but please be aware that sleeping for 36 hours and then snurfling at a beehive is not a “game” in the strictest sense.

Brendan Drain (@nyphur): I’m still desperately trying to find gifts for people that don’t come from the Steam sales, but plan to get some time in on Guild Wars 2. I’ll probably also spend a few hours grinding in EVE Online to make back the cost of an embarrassing tech 3 cruiser loss on my pirate alt that was 100% my own fault, the worst part being that I forgot to eject and lost skillpoints too.

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): If I’m really lucky, I’m finally going to get to sit down on Sunday and play something! Guild Wars 2 is still at the top of my list to really dig into.

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): As always, Final Fantasy XIV and World of Warcraft are on my docket; I also took advantage of the sale on Star Trek Online ships and grabbed a few my main could make use of. Otherwise, there are various single-player games that I’ve decided I want to clear away before I jump on any more Steam sales, so I will… probably just tool around in various Saints Row titles without accomplishing anything significant.

Jef Reahard (@jefreahard): Star Wars: Battlefront and maybe Lord of the Rings Online.

Justin Olivetti (@Sypster, blog): Right now I am all about the WildStar double XP, so I’ll be power leveling an Esper that see how that goes. I’ve also reinstalled RIFT just because.

MJ Guthrie (@MJ_Guthrie, blog): I plan on spending the bulk of my time in ARK: Survival Evolved. I plan on mating my wolves together and trying for some adorable little pups. I also made a fancy new arena that needs plenty of testing! Other than that, I will be in ArcheAge doing some trade runs, in EverQuest II doing some questing and house decorating, and hopefully in Sword Coast Legends checking out the DM tools. There is also a chance I will pop into Landmark and start working on a new idea for my claim.

Patreon Donor Pierre: Hello everyone. I wish you a happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy the week-end with a lot of gaming time (MMOs or not). Mine will be spent exploring the Wasteland in Fallout 4: I don’t know why exactly, but I love this game when Fallout 3 bored me as hell. If I had to guess, I would explain it by the presence of many MMO features in F4 like crafting, housing, or just because I like the story better. When I leave the Wasteland, it will be to explore the world of Tamriel in The Elder Scrolls Online. I really love this game, it’s my favorite MMO at the moment.
