Star Citizen approaches the $100 million funding mark

I'm sure somebody thinks that's neat!

Numbers are kind of funny. The total amount of Star Citizen‘s funding doesn’t really mean anything, per se; $100 million is just a significant number because of our base-ten system, and there only because it’s a nice round number. But it still feels nice to see the number round off nicely, and the game is less than a million away from hitting that milestone.

What will happen when it does? Well, the ticker will roll over to $100 million and the world will go on exactly as before. We do, however, give full authority to whoever may want to break out party hats and noisemakers. Whatever brings you joy.

If you had been paying attention and had some patience instead of just looking at the funding numbers and being impatient, you would know that the SC Alpha 2.0 was released to the PTU just a couple weeks ago, and they are currently working on some bugs that’s preventing them from doing a full release to all backers.

I also recommend looking at some of the gameplay videos from the PTU that’s been released, showing the current state of the game before you go all doom and gloom about the game about peoples expectations.

And they just released a gameplay trailer for the game, and MOP has an article about it up as well.
http://massivelyop.com/2015/12/04/star-citizen-shows-off-ship-combat-fps-and-eva-in-new-trailer/.

And once you watched the video you will probably notice an error regarding the release state of the SC Alpha 2.0 which is explained here.

So, are they ever planning on releasing this game or is this just the biggest money sink in history? Don’t get me wrong, I love the concept of Wing Commander and would love to see an MMO version of the game, but at this price tag, I don’t see how it can live up to any expectation. And while I love games, there’s something about 100 million invested in one game seems like a sad waste of money to me.

As much as it would be cool to be able to do that I don’t think it qualifies. It is as complete as they want it to be. These are design deduction in line with he genre it’s in. Fps are always and will always be menu driver. You count yourself lucky if you get a short story mode, but more and more you see them dumping that.
Now if you want to call it incomplete because of the lack of content in the multiplayer, few would argue. It has become standard operating procedure to be able to modify your weapons at least. The biggest crime here is that all they had to do was slap a coat of Star war paint on their existing battlefield game and it would have sold like hot cakes and they managed to screw it up.

There are many types of trolling. Some will say that namecalling is a form of trolling because it often leads to flamewars. Anyway, “numpties” aren’t very constructive if you want your opinion heard.

I think Star Wars: Battlefield is a good example of a game that’s released incomplete. I mean, a Star Wars game where you can’t combat in space? Hello? And you can’t even fly from planet to planet, but have to select maps (planets) from a menu!

Correct. Chris Roberts write about Derek Smart:

“This is the same person who wrote a letter to Origin and me after Wing
Commander was out claiming that we were infringing on his game and we
had to cease publishing it or he would sue us. We told him we never
heard of him and good luck with that. He never sued. His game was, of
course, the now infamous Battlecruiser 3000AD that would take many more
years to come out (I think I shipped four Wing Commanders before his
game came out).”

screecwe groo the wanderer Or it’s because English is a bastard language to begin with and it is primarily made up of a combination of French, Latin and Greek.

Though, if we all wait about a decade or so, their will be Chinese English to make the this discussion really fun.
