Eco’s alpha was successful; here’s what’s next

Fences!

Strange Loop says that Eco’s alpha was a success, thanks mainly to lots of players giving the dev team “tons of feedback, suggestions, and bug reports.”

After a brief respite for the Thanksgiving holiday, the devs are back at it and forging ahead with their post-alpha plans. The latest website update features a guide to Eco’s art, which Strange Loop says will remain blocky but which will also evolve “for greater detail, more variation, and more impactful interactions.”

The skill system will evolve, too, with new subskills and skillpoints planned and shown off in a new Google doc. Finally, Strange Loop has released a list of 21 critical bugs that it plans to fix this week.

Somehow the voxel games all give me simulation sickness. Weathered it hundreds of hours in minecraft with medication but unfortunately these games make me super duper sick.

I want to fall in love with this. I watched a couple of alpha videos, but I really hate the voxel cube structure where mining for one second with a pickaxe obliterates a 1 x 1 m block.
I really hope they will somehow evolve this game into an MMO. Seeing a server “community” of around 10 people made me less than tempted to buy in.
