Guild Wars 2 promises quarterly balance updates, says e-sports are crucial to the game’s growth

ArenaNet Lead Developer Colin Johanson has strong words in defense of Guild Wars 2’s emphasis on e-sports, saying that these programs are “extremely successful” and crucial to the growth of the title. “Rooting against programs like pro league is basically rooting against GW2 growing,” Johanson posted on Reddit.

Johanson engaged the community over the issue of PvP balance passes, saying that Heart of Thorns represented the first such update of many. “Balance is super important in a world where WvW, raids, fractals, PvP, etc., are key components to GW2’s success. And ensuring we have a new major balance update you can count on every three months is one of our keys to accomplishing that goal.”

He also addressed accusations that ArenaNet needs a better communications model by saying that most devs comment in their spare time and when projects allow for it. He did assure fans that plenty was being done to tackle bugs and that the team should be better about discussing those efforts.

PizzaDoh Rozyn Yeah, but how many plays in GW2 will you actually SEE in the flustercuck of stuff that goes on pvp, to actually notice the small nuances of a pro-play?
When Insec did the kick, you saw it. When Faker dodged all the other Zed’s skills, you saw it. When Dendi gets a blind hook, you SEE it. The Roshan dive with Earthshaker + Ancient Apparition at TI was easy to notice but a great play.
GW2 is so damn convoluted that is just a fucking mess. Good plays involve few skills with good usage. GW2 involves too many skills, with standard usages, and the ones that ARE playmakers ( shadowstep, blink, the mesmer knockback on 2h sword, or the immunity on bursts at Sword 3 ), get shrouded by the messy brawl that is the GW2 Conquest pvp.

PizzaDoh Rozyn Yeah, but GW2 isn’t going to get anyone pumped for eSports. It’s simply not the right game for it. A good MMO doesn’t equate great eSports host.

Kalamari Rozyn Of course they do, no one invests into e-sports without wanting the share of the e-sports profits.

Kalamari Armsbend Well, i’m not a hater, but punching nails pretending that you’re fixing the door, isn’t really the best approach. Anet is so focused on getting a piece of that e-sports pie, that they don’t see the most glaring issues plaguing their game.
Colin is too full of pride on this one. Anet is trying to get e-sports gamers, and losing the players they ALREADY have, instead of fixing what should be fixed.
And please, enlighten me how GW2 spvp has a “pretty good chance” to be one of the most successful ones?

Rozyn first: the esport thing is completely driven by the marketing team. devs have nothing to do with it.
second: they doint want the “LoL-bucks”.

Armsbend
“jealous developer”…. LMAO!!!

*sigh*
they are not targeting the big esport games and he also sais that in one of his comments! they are targeting the mmo esport. and they have a pretty good chance to be one of the more successfull ones in that category.

and 15 likes for such a stupid shit post… classic GW2 haters.
