ARK: Survival Evolved scores some mainstream press coverage

ARK: Survival Evolved got some mainstream press coverage over the weekend, with a piece in the Seattle Times that focused on Studio Wildcard lead Jesse Rapczak. Yes, people still produce (and apparently read!) newspapers, and Rapczak — a former Microsoft designer who worked on the HolonLens project — is profiled along with ARK itself.

The dino survival sandbox has sold over 2.4 million copies despite not being finished and despite being a PC-only title to date. Studio Wildcard features a five-person dev team working in Bellevue, Washington, and “a few dozen more working as far afield as Egypt,” according to the Times.

DeadlyAccurate At 370 hours you cant argue with the value! :D  (I too enjoy the game, even if I “only” clocked 80 hours so far)

Sorenthaz Come join us Sorenthaz, be great to have you. You might want to check out the Ark wiki, I have got a lot of good instructions from it.

It is really nice to see a small team doing well. I have always enjoyed rooting for the “little guy” through out my life. This was a good purchase recently and I enjoy playing it.

I’ve finally grown tired of the game after 370 played hours, and I’m ready to set it aside until release. It’s an amazing title and in a very strong state for a game in alpha. Worth every penny I paid for it.

John Bagnoli Is the MOP server still going? I went on it for a little bit ages ago but it seemed to have only a couple of people on.

melissaheather I’d take the estimated time with a giga-sized grain of salt, but it looks like hair options are on the way. From the last Q&A Digest the devs posted:
Survivor, TheEnglishSpartan asks, “Will you be adding anymore type of Customisation to our characters soon?”
Answer:
Character face changes and hairstyles will be arriving in January finally!

You’re turned loose in the world without any help or instructions, yes, and you have to essentially figure out what to do, and how to do it.  Graphics look incredible.   I wish there were actual hairdos, I don’t care for my short punky style.   But the texture maps on the avatars are quite good, realistic skin tones, high resolution avatars.   And the dinos look insane.   If you have the graphic muscle to throw at this game, crank it all the way up, it looks stunning.
