How do you get better at things in Crowfall? Obviously, there’s personal practice, but in the more abstract sense, there are the game’s skill trees. Skill trees are how characters train up to improve statistics, and the latest article on the official site previews the fine details of the system as it currently stands.

The short version is that skills are trained over time, with a slow trickle of points improving the skill even if you’re offline. Each skill also offers a bonus to character stats as it improves, with certain skills offering a larger or smaller coefficient for that bonus. Players will have access to skill trees for both archetype-specific skills and general skills, with promotion paths available for players who master the archetype-specific options. If you’ve bemoaned the presence of simpler systems in character specialization, you’ll probably be quite happy with what the team has developed thus far.

Radfist blackcat7k This is my understanding as well. I believe the goal is to give even newcomers a decent character, but then have them move into a more precise spec from there.

Mitzruti The stats are a secondary effect, you progress in skills as well.

blackcat7k I think it will be heavily diminishing returns, in that it is super quick and easy to get to a competitive level, but it will take a very long time to fully cap out.

Hmmm…I wonder how they’re going to stop the top heavy veteran thing from making new blood stop coming into the game; which is affecting the MMO they cribbed this from. Also, now that you have this system, lets see your cash shop ideas and see if your “convenience” really is just buying power for cash.

“Eventually you’ll make it there” is not an argument if on the way to making it there you’re just free cannon fodder for anyone who’s powerful for no other reason than time. Crowfall’s B2P with optional sub is either going to be really interesting or just some song and dance of verbal gymnastics where power advancement = money spent at the end of the day.
