Saerain Sorenthaz I won’t spend more than $200 on anything (good) VR. Which is okay because I’m sure I’ll see that price within a few years.

BrennanK Yeah I’m not anticipating great mobile VR for the next years, but the 2020s to be full of it, developing towards a future of everyone fiddling with their visor/glasses/headset/contacts(too soon? well at some point, if futurists are right) instead of a phone. Tapping screens? Ew, old man! (But again, not for the next several years.)

SallyBowls1 Yes. Billions are being put into VR/AR because the idea, from what I gather, is that the 2020s will be full of consumer products that take advantage of this new technology. Consumerism. Companies noticing that they can’t continue down the same line for too long and that there needs to be new shinies to sell to us. Smartphones are somewhere around peak. Need to sell more things.

Great news. This sort of thing isn’t my favorite, but its one of the first things in mind for when/if I do get a OR.

Lhumierre bayspoon If you could get the controls down, it’d be like a gigantic tabletop game.  Maybe with the new controllers Oculus are releasing next year.  Or maybe a cleaver Steam Controller mapping.  I don’t think it’ll be easy to do, but it’s possible.

Sometime ago I read that Valkyrie is going to be 5v5, with various turrets separating 2 carriers.

If we lump AR in with VR, today there was a rumor in Gamesutra about Magic Leap. $1.4 billion for AR for mobile???? Some people are going to be really right and others really wrong; this is starting to add up to real money.

“Mysterious augmented reality startup Magic Leap is raising $827 million though[sic] a new series C funding round, according to a Delaware filing acquired by Forbes.

If successful, the new round would bring Magic Leap’s total investment to nearly $1.4 billion, with the company having previously secured $542 million from a funding round led by Google back in October 2014.

That being said, we do know that the company is working on some form of wearable augmented reality device that will link up with smartphones and produce realistic 3D models.”
