World of Warcraft: Legion tosses in more celeb cameos

76

World of Warcraft is no stranger to hobnobbing with real-world celebrities, from hiring them for commercials to putting them into the game as not-so-secret digital cameos. Players in Legion’s alpha have spotted two such celeb alter-egos so far: UFC’s Ronda Rousey and actress Mila Kunis.

The Monk class hall is home to both Rousey (as a human Monk) and Kunis. Kunis’ character is currently a garrison follower, so this move keeps her amid the current content. Both celebrities are gamers and vocal enthusiasts of World of Warcraft. So if you’ve had a desire to be immortalized as a WoW character, it seems that the formula is: become famous and talk about WoW a lot in interviews. Easy peasy!

You can see the two in a video after the break.

vicariousfan Higgens I enjoy seeing women compete.  Even in boxing or MMA.    Sure, it’s a way prettier thing to see Misty May-Trainor and Kerri Walsh kicking the world’s asses in beach volleyball in their bikinis.
But it’s also pretty awesome to see two women with warrior’s hearts doing battle with determination and grit and ferocity.
Remember, the lionesses do the hunting…

Theo454 Higgens Armsbend That’s an attitude best kept in the dojo.  In the Octagon you are 5 seconds away from trying to cave in someone’s face with a punch or kick, or choke them into submission.   Touching gloves is massively overrated, and lots of fighters don’t do it.
But in the case of Rousey my feeling is that parallels with Mike Tyson are apt.  Both were raised from youth to be thoroughbreds, and both ran through their divisions like a knife through butter.  but amazing talent led to contempt for less talented foes, and a bully’s heart was revealed.  And both came in apparently overconfident, distracted, ill-prepared, and got taken out by a humble, but capable and focused challenger.  Will she return? Time will tell.   There is millions to be made in a rematch, but unless it ends down on the mat Ronda will lose again.  It would take her literally years to learn to box like Holly.  It would take Holly years to learn to be the kind of olympic-medal-winning judoka that Ronda is.   Ronda lost because she stubbornly tried to box with the boxer.  I don’t see her doing that twice.
It’s unfortunate that their particular brand of ferocity is at the personality level and spills out into their private lives.  Ronda spewed out a very hateful message towards Holly the night before the fight after their tift at the weigh-in, which both egged on, neither backing down.
Boxing is in my family, i know it well.  Roy Jones Jr. one of the greatest fighters of all time, said it best.   “I can’t just turn it off.”

Theo454 Higgens Armsbend Yeh, she has had other times similar to that, but when I saw that I was just like, “I hope that bitch gets her ass beat”. She has no respect for other fighters, I have no respect for her.

BryanCo paragonlostinspace 7BitBrian Yep, they are total strangers to the word “consistent”, like two ships passing in the night, never to cross paths.

paragonlostinspace 7BitBrian  Hell, not only do they not take it seriously, they don’t even keep it consistent.  For TBC they basically threw all prior lore regarding Dranei out the door and reversed the ‘who corrupted who’ between Sargeras and the Eredar.

Rhonda is NOT Rousey, its a reference to Rhonda Cox, one of the associate producers on WoW https://twitter.com/Level99RedMage/status/676495622283792384

Higgens Armsbend  I have to admit I haven’t followed her career as closely as others, but personally, I lost what little respect I had for her when Holly Holm raised her gloves to respectfully tap gloves with Rousey before the fight, and Rousey frowned with a hateful look on her face and turned away without even raising her gloves. I can’t help thinking it’s kind of like what if two karate masters were meeting in a match, both are supposed to bow to each other before the fight begins, which I take as a sign of respect and honor. If one of the martial artists frowned with a hateful look and turned away and refused to bow to the other for no good reason, it would probably be seen as very dishonorable and disrespectful, and reflect poorly not only on the person, but on the sport as well.
