Devils are afoot in Dungeons and Dragons Online, and players are once again called into action to preserve the peace.

Update 29: The Codex War released today, containing a new Vale of Twilight adventure pack, a level cap increase, epic destiny feats, and better loot for treasure chests. The big announcement of the patch is the debut of legendary content: “Get ready to take on new legendary quests, as well as legendary versions of three classic DDO raids — including The Shroud, the Hound of Xoriat, as well as Tempest Spine!”

The update is included in VIP memberships but requires a separate purchase for free players.

TheKingInYellow I’m a big fan of DDO’s business model.  For the most part, subscribing gives you pretty much the same experience as most subscription-based MMOs.  There are some character options restricted that you have to earn in-game to unlock on each server.  This is mostly exactly the same way it was before the change to the free-to-play business model, but you now have the ability to pay to unlock them early across all servers.

As for content, you get access to everything that isn’t expansion content.  The expansion content is mostly high level stuff, though, and you can pretty easily play the game from 1-20 without the expansions.  The DDO reincarnation system will let you take that character back to level 1 with some perks, although there’s some grind to get the item needed to reincarnate if you don’t want to buy an item.

As far as the new, free player expeirence, it’s pretty good.  There’s enough content to get you to about 10th level or so without grinding quests endlessly.  Here’s a guide to free quests and how to maximize earning points in the game for free: http://ddowiki.com/page/Guide_to_Free_to_Play  I’d highly suggest spending a bit of money up front, as that gets you a “premium” account which loosens a few annoying restrictions and gets you a few extra character slots.

Hope that helps.  DDO is really best played with some friends in a static group, in my opinion.  Rope a few friends into playing a few times a week, and it’s a lot of fun.

I always wanted to check this game more. I played it long. long time ago when update number was one digit if i remember well and now amount of money that they want for adventure packs and content overall is just off putting (its exacle the same issue that LOTRO have).

I may sub but can someone tell me how percentage of game content and features is still locked even with VIP subscription active?
And if i download the game just to check it how enjoable is free player experience and is there even so much free content to level one char?

Thx

The Legendary quest ‘To Curse the Sky’ is particularly good. To Curse the Sky is one of the flagging quests for the Legendary Shroud raid.
