SkySaga’s alpha gets into the spirit of the holidays

7

I was just remarking the other day how odd it is to me that so many early access and alpha games are taking the time and effort to include actual holiday events. Back when I was just a wee… 20-something, holidays were reserved for released titles, not those still in construction. But why complain when it’s something fun for testers to do?

Anyway, this is all to say that SkySaga’s latest alpha patch includes a new Midwinter event. During this time, players can enjoy the decorations and loot special chests from mobs that contain all sorts of seasonal goodies. There are new crafting recipes for cheery furniture to be found and hints of a special secret location as well.

The patch also increased the visibility of PvP on the UI and tackled a whole host of bugs.

Not drastically changing?? Are you actually playing it? The changes from Alpha 5 to 6 were drastic enough recently … And it is a closed Alpha, the keys are strongly limited in activation.

Well, good for SkySaga to be a completely free early access game for anyone interested, then.

Early Access/Kickstarter is not testing it is a selling phase.

Lets be honest here. SkySaga has basically soft-launched. Its bee in open alpha for about a year now. I don’t really see the game drastically changing between now and launch, assuming launch ever comes. It might never happen. Or it could happen tomorrow. Who knows.

Although they’ll inevitably wipe the game yet again, leaving all earned holiday recipes gone until the next holiday/launch. There is an upside to having a holiday event run during a game’s testing phase. That being that they will actually have holiday events ready for the players when the game does go live.  This was a huge problem with Wildstar, which supposedly was working on holiday events before it’s 2014 launch, but failed to deliver on any for the first year of the game’s live service (at time when customers were actively subscribing and paying monthly for an otherwise statically boring game world).
