Stormwind and Orgrimmar guards are excited for Star Wars in World of Warcraft

The elf is superfluous in this scenario.

Being a writer for this particular outlet means getting to work from home, which means that the dress code rules aren’t terrible restrictive. The men and women who guard Stormwind and Orgrimmar in World of Warcraft, by contrast, have a rather stricter dress code, what with armor and everything. But it appears that their bosses have allowed them all to show a bit of a tribute to the big movie release of the weekend.

Yes, the guards in both cities are toting around swords that look an awful lot like lightsabers in honor of The Force Awakens. For the guards who can’t wait to see the movie, this is great news. For players who are hoping to get away from the movie… well, really, general chat in every game was always going to be filled with spoilers. The point is that it’s a cute tribute.

WoW has more content for the new movie than swtor does. SWTOR just has broken events they won’t fix.

Polyanna  Better stay away from forums entirely.  I remember when the WoW forums were filled with posts titled “SNAPE KILLS DUMBLEDORE!”  I’m not so into Harry Potter that it bothered me, but plenty of people were more than a bit upset.

agemyth  At a glance my first though on the grapes was “Is that supposed to be a bag of Yoda testicles?”

They kinda look like lightsabers anyway.

agemyth After seeing the pink explosion with cancer and related things, I’m totally immune to any Star Wars advertising. Compared to the Cancer agencies, Star Wars are amateurs at branding, since they only do it once every couple of years at release.

PizzaDoh A Dad Supreme Sorenthaz “So I guess all the spoilers thrown around in WoW are F2P jackasses?”
======
This hyperbolic statement is not mine nor was it inferred, although you seem to have read it that way.
F2P made it far easier for any Tom, Dick and Harriet to make an account with tons of alts just to troll. Ban the account, make another one.
Subs make troll characters, but not usually troll accounts because that’s twice the money just to troll. Also, if you troll with an alt on your actual account, it’s easy to find you and get rid of you permanently. With F2P, anyone can walk in and no one is ever permanently banned.
And please about Barren’s Chat. I was talking about the rise of spoiler idiots, not some of the origins. Barren’s Chat got plenty of morons banned who probably never came back, given millions of players in the game.

I can’t wait for this marketing and general insanity to end. This WoW thing is at least a bit more subtle and likely not just explicit paid for advertising. I’ll just wait to see the movie when there is a good chance I won’t be sitting next to someone in a jedi robe ;o If you are that person in the jedi robe though enjoy your moment, by all means.

The only MMO I’m currently playing right now is SWTOR.  And I think I’m seeing more Star Wars tie-in gimmicks (every freakin’ local business seems to be having free ticket contests and/or adding ‘may the force be with you’ to the end of commercials) out of game than in game.

Ok, this is cool.  Subtle and not overstated.  Great tribute.  :)
