Gigantic developer Motiga discusses delays and future updates

I don't think the bnright side is what you think the bright side is.

People who were hoping for Gigantic to hit full retail release some time this year are no doubt a wee bit disappointed that the game is delaying its launch after a round of layoffs. A new post on the official site goes into more detail regarding the layoffs and the launch schedule. The short version? The shift to Windows 10 and Xbox One cross-platform integration delayed development, meaning that hard choices had to be made regarding the number of people still on staff.

The current plan is to release a new beta build in early 2016 which will mark the first iteration of the game as a cross-platform application, along with a new map and new balance changes for the title’s iconic Guardians. Another new map is also planned for 2016 as development continues. The development team also took to Reddit to answer more specific player questions, which serves as something to chew on before the game’s next major beta patch in 2016.

The whole game is built around being an Arathi Basin clone… Not hard to see that it wouldn’t hold players’ interest for more than a week.
If they can talk the investors into giving them 1-2 more years to completely change direction they might be able to deliver something, maybe.
Don’t think any investor would be too keen on doing that at this point though…

Quincha Dystopiq Had to reformat after Win10 upgrade wouldn’t accept my windows key and left my PC unable to boot.  Keeping windows 7 until everything gets ironed out on Feb 30th

Wasn’t this one of E3’s big reveals?  Odd.

W10 is a deal breaker for me.  I havent given it a passing thought since they announced it was tied to that piece of slag I do not want.

Maybe they shouldn’t have sign windows 10 and xbone exclusive deal with Microsoft. Doing a early access or kickstarter could have saved them ! It a shame a good looking game getting delayed.

Well I was convinced from the start that out of Overwatch, Battleborn, Paladins and Gigantic one would definitely bite the dust.  I honestly did not think it would be Gigantic but here we are. They’ll be too late to the party and leashed to an OS that most gamers aren’t using. ggwp. Exclusivity agreements once again showing how amazing they are for everyone involved.

I was skeptical of 10 but it is miles better than 7 and 8.1. The only issues i had were the automatic driver updates, which I disabled, and the other shit which can be disabled in the registry and group policy editor, which BTW 7 and 8 also do. They all collect telemetry

ColdinT PizzaDoh  My complete guess is that getting on XBone was the reason for W10.  IIRC, unlike PS, XB did not do crossplatform but is now allowing it for some Windows boxes (could be misremembering this)  Since XBone is also running Windows 10, I can see how it was easier to not write different code for W7 (and both the people using W8)

Ness199X The art style looks like garbage. Or to be exact, there’s not nearly enough shaders.

Ness199X Art style and quality is a million times better than Battleborn and a definite improvement over Paladins. Overwatch certainly bests it in quality (however I’d argue stylistically is not as new and interesting).

Huge shame, the locked window 10 and delays mean I’ll probably just end up getting into one of the now many other variants of the game.
