Pathfinder Online is hosting a year’s end chat with fans

And we may not pass this way again.

This has not been an easy year to be a fan of Pathfinder Online, but the last update fans had was that there were rumblings of a new investor interested in the project. Acting CEO Lisa Stevens recently announced that she will be hosting an end of the year chat with fans on December 29th at 8:00 p.m. EST, and unsurprisingly investments are at the top of the list for what will be discussed.

Other topics of discussion include the next update to the game’s test build and a timeline for players to expect, which hopefully signals positive news in the wake of the Goblinworks implosion last September. The chat itself will be held on Mumble, so if you don’t have the client installed but still want to participate, now would be the time.

The MMO felt nothing at all like Pathfinder. The only similarity that I could detect was the Pathfinder name. I don’t think the developers understood the RPG. Or if they did, they did a hellaciously awful job of translating it to the PC.  I honestly believe if they get their funding and publish a MMO, it will do far more harm than good to the Pathfinder reputation.

A Dad Supreme Mumble seems to be the voicechat-method of choice of the PFO crowd.  The month I tried it out everyone in-game seemed to be using it.

Grave Knight rottenrotny As someone who has been playing Pathfinder Tabletop for a few years now I only found out about the PFS stuff when they brought in the venture people to PFO. I didn’t really know that was a ‘big thing’, still seems weird to me given how I grew up playing TT.

ProfessionalNoob kallidor2635 To be fair you just described a 50+ million dollar project compared to the 5ish million they were planning to spend.

I swear I don’t understand why they didn’t just make this the new Neverwinter Nights with Persistent Worlds. For those who want this, check out Shards. I think you will be pleased.

Anyways, for those who are invested in the game, feel free to check out Revival, its everything that this game was supposed to be and more.https://www.revivalgame.com/forum

One of the more significant players cashed out and sold his accounts recently – the amount people were paying for that virtual stuff was quite surprising, especially considering that the seller (despite claiming it was a good investment) was not confident in keeping that investment himself.

If there is one thing the pathfinder online community has a lot of, it is incredible faith in the developers, enough to spend vast sums of cash on a game that is barely hanging in there. Part of me really admires that, but I am also feeling that those people are being treated especially poorly.

If the current rumour of an investor doesn’t turn into hard fact by the start of the new year, then they should do the decent thing and close the game down, for the wellbeing of all concerned. Lets hope that the rumour is not just an attempt to assuage unhappiness and that there really is a bright light on the horizon.

Because if there isn’t, then I really feel uncomfortable at what will follow.

kallidor2635 They could have made a kick ass d20 simulator allowing people to make their own scenarios online using the Golarion lore. Think roll20 to the tenth degree graphically.

Then they could have sold adventures online ‘Rise of the Runelords’ as well as digital assets like Dungeon sets, Pirate sets, Sewer backgrounds….

They could have also sold costumes and cosmetic pieces for players so that they could have differing sets of plate mail.

They could have set it up so people could have made their own worlds ala Neverwinter Nights.

They could have … and I hoped when it was announced that was what it was going to be.

I really want this game to work. It has so much potential. I really don’t understand why people keep using the same complaint “This isn’t Pathfinder…”. Obviously. Its an MMO, not a table-top rpg. How else could they make it more like the table rpg without it not feeling like an MMO??

Everything Ryan Dancy touches ends in disaster.  They need to keep him out of game design.
