If nothing else, Entropia Universe seems always good for an eye-popping story about how much real-world money that players will spend on in-game goods (such as $5,000 invisible clothing). Today’s “I can’t believe someone bought that” moment features one gamer who dropped over 51 Gs on a single weapon.

Yes, you read that right.

A character named Divinity Deth Undefined spent $51,796 for a Dub & McCormick Terminator shortly this past summer. This unique weapon was created in 2005 as a prize for a community video contest. The weapon has changed hands several times over the past decade and has been increasing in value ever since its debut. Curious what it looks like? We’ve got a video of the Terminator after the break.

Ulfury C4de  Anyone who thinks virtual items are a good idea for investment should read up on history.

Or consider Beanie Babies for a more recent example.

C4de Ulfury To you, to you they are not more then a collection of stats and pixels, for someone else it is a valuable item and investment from which they can profit on, like don’t get me wrong I totally understand that it is a crazy sum, one that I would never be able to afford but it doesn’t lessen the fact that this person is :P

If he is able to earn that money back with that investment why not?

Ulfury I don’t care about the mechanism or reasoning behind it. Fifty-one thousand dollars was spent on a VIRTUAL gun.

To put that in perspective, for the same sum of money, you could buy a small house. Or a luxury car. Or a REALLY good college education. It’s more than a lot of people LIVE ON on an annual basis.

Hell, for that sum, you could outfit a private army with REAL rifles.

That much money, spent on something that is literally nothing more than a collection of stats and pixels, is INSANE.

If you’d play the game you’d understand the reasoning behind purchasing such a weapon, Deth owns a bank inside the game as well so it is not like he doesn’t have the cash.

By purchasing this weapon he has more or less ensured himself of prizes in upcoming events and the ability to cycle the money he spent on it to profit, it is just a matter of how long you are intending to play the game really, additionally he could lend it to someone else for a fee etc.

I understand that it sounds like a crazy sum of money but in reality if you look at the game and actually play it it isn’t that big of deal, if you got the money and you enjoy the game, why not?

It is not like the people who work on building Lamborghini’s own one, just cause you can’t afford something doesn’t mean it is well within budget for someone else. :)

Anyone have an idea how many real assault rifles could be purchased with that much dough?
