Popular Guild Wars 2 YouTuber team banned for cheating

Protip: Don’t cheat in video games, especially always-online MMORPGs where the devs are actively seeking out cheaters and have a reputation for humiliating them publicly.

Popular Guild Wars 2 YouTuber duo Suck at Love could’ve used that tip. They logged into the game to find their accounts banned by ArenaNet for hacking, so what did they do? Post a video insisting on their innocence. (The video’s since been deleted, but it’s been uploaded to a mirror by Redditors.)

In response to fans’ inquiries about the case, ArenaNet’s Gaile Gray addressed the banning on the forums, writing that at least one of the accounts was banned for map hacking:

Customer Support has carefully reviewed the data that resulted in the termination of the game account in question. They verified that this account accessed 29 map points in under 60 seconds. It is not possible to accomplish this without the use of a third-party program, the kind of program that is expressly forbidden by our User Agreement and our Rules of Conduct.
Because of these facts, the account termination will not be reversed.

Suck at Love were best known for a series of music videos on the game, which they say will not be continued.

Sorenthaz exploits are usually bannable…

boots2 Also, most games don’t ban immediately as they find someone botting. They’ll wait and have a “ban wave” to prevent botters from learning what got them caught.

boots2 If I remember correctly, I think there was a post saying that even people who bought hundreds were on the LOW end.

raincoat At least there is no question anymore for anyone who still doubted. It is good he came out and admitted the cheat, even if it was only after knowing ANet had the proof to back up the suspension.

vicariousfan raincoat SoMuchMass Yeah, it’s a shame. Their contribution was pretty solid as far as fan-art goes. Now those who defended them feel stupid and angry. Zack did post an apology on reddit and an explanation of what he did. Seems it’s going to take a lot more time before people give him a break though. All the while I’m thinking, why did you push the matter? If they didn’t try to rally the community (and other content creators) in a campaign for getting unbanned, this would not have been public knowledge. But it’s over and done now. I hope the community will put away the pitchforks sooner rather than later. The system worked. Someone cheated and there were repercussions. Fin.

Never heard of them but I don’t watch gaming music videos.  Hacking/Cheating when you are Higher profile user is especially stupid.
