The Secret World on AEGIS plans, player perks, and city hubs

Last fall, devs asked The Secret World players to submit their most burning questions about the game, and then the community voted on which ones they wanted Lead Designer Romain “Tilty” Amiel to answer to most. The top five winners have now received their answers!

Tilty explained more about the Third Core Capacitor and Supernal Diode (they were “a part of a design for a very particular end-game quest chain,” which isn’t in-game yet) and plans for the AEGIS (namely, the introduction of more colors in some new locations).

If you’ve found yourself wishing that Seoul and New York were as feature-rich as London, don’t hold your breath. London was always meant to be the real hub for players old and new to congregate, though Agartha seemed to have stolen that title. However, while banks, barbers, and post offices won’t be appearing in those other two hubs, future features will be spread among all three faction hubs going forward.

Titly also explained the “Vault Data Access Authorization” perk: Players who reached the top rank in their factions were intended to receive access to faction vaults. However those vaults involve the Puzzle Raids that are not ready for release. Never fear — Tilty is considering other ways to grant access to the vaults early.

If you want more details on these answers, including one decision Tilty would have changed during development, check out the full post.

Greaterdivinity BalsBigBrother It isn’t really that much of a grind, particularly now that the price for the upgrade kits have been lowered and more missions added to Kaidan. . Just play through all of the missions, including the side ones. With the Tower added in, you can rack up the experience you need pretty quickly, at least I think so.

wild_abyss mbbrazen if you have been playing off and on you may even have some of the drop pieces. They were dropping during the time of the Flappy open raid (I miss that so much), but many people did not know what they were for.

A very solid accesment. I’d have preferred one Tokyo neighborhood and the tower. Then to move to another location. We have spent too much time there. Aegis is unpopular and annoying. But they seem determined to ram it down our throats.

What I read in the comments is that TSW – despite its relative success today (I use the word relative very specifically here) – is still barely breathing.

So many different paths abandoned, so many plans lay in tatters with players kicking through the debris wondering “what was this clever bit going to be for?”  Curiously, with the setting, it works to enhance the fin de siecle atmosphere, but in reality doesn’t make it one bit less depressing.

I agree entirely with his retrospective, that making resistances more a part of gameplay would probably have been more interesting (but would have required more developer work to maintain balance, because players would have had to work up a ‘golf bag’ of assorted tools for different situations).  Curiously, I simultaneously think the Aegis thing was a distraction and annoyance, so maybe I’m of two minds on the whole thing myself.  Tokyo felt very cobbled-together, unsurprisingly, like a project that’s gone through too many committees.  Still some great content and writing, but nowhere near as artfully constructed as other zones.

Secret World: the Gormenghast of MMOs.

ogged451 Anima Shot is the Anti-Christ in PVP. So OP you could be a noob and rape experienced full 10.9 players with it. Most Rifle skills are 1 second cast. This one is being put in line with the rest.

Some of the answer are so sad to read.
“prioritize the implementation of Issues, new locations, auxiliary weapons, etc…” the last aux weapon came 2.5 years ago, the only new location (Kaidan) was worked on since release (or probably even before that. And lately the Issues were rather bland, I11 (the “conclusion” to Tokyo) did not tie up most loose ends and I13 seems to be more of a sidestory pack than a “true” issue.
Also, it’s interesting that they conjure Ragnar whenever it seems they don’t yet know how to monetize something. (reference : Ragnar also said “no mounts” .. now we’re drowning in motorbike and hoverboards)
New AEGIS colours are also disappointing.

But what really made me step away from TSW yesterday was the news that they are going to nerf Anima Shot. So unnecessary.

Greaterdivinity Koshelkin 1 major healing piece for solo leech(10.4~). If you have the necklace from the park, that’s enough.

Koshelkin Not yet, I’m working towards unlocking the abilities/passives I’m missing for it. Haven’t had much time to play recently (deep in FFXIV at the moment) but I’ll let you know when I get the kit fully built and the right gear (need 1-2 healing pieces probably).

Greaterdivinity BalsBigBrother Did you test my build? If you did, did it work out?

An Overabundance of Cats BalsBigBrother Frankly, I seriously wish they never added it. It was silly. Instead of doing bonus damage to people, it just got rid of their stupid shield, and then did nothing. Bleh. I love TSW, but I still dislike the aegis system.
