Elite: Dangerous has sold 1.4 million copies

IT'S THE FINAL COUNT DOWN

After a solid year’s worth of updates and the first pass of planetary landing mechanics, Elite: Dangerous has hit a grand total of 1.4 million copies sold. Average play time for a given copy is apparently sitting at 60 hours, which comes out to 84 million hours across the many copies of the game in circulation. That’s a lot of danger.

The game’s availability for three different platforms (Mac, PC, and Xbox One) doubtlessly helps its overall sales, of course, as does the addition of Horizons to the game. It might not be your personal favorite space game, but it’s pretty decidedly a success at this point.

Serrenity Kataq No offense taken. It just easy to mistake people as trolls when they repeat the same incorrect info 3 times, despite correction. But it’s clear now you aren’t trolling.

Kataq you very well could have — I don’t always catch the replies if I’m not setting on the page (my notifications go to a different email I check less frequently).
Apologies if I offended with my obliviousness

Lheiah This is quite simply incredible. over 700 players signed up to take part in a 65,000 Light Year journey across our Galaxy. As luck would have it , myself and a few friends were already a week into preparations for a trip to Sagittarius A (Center of the Galaxy) and are due to set off this weekend, now I’m seriously thinking about tagging along on this expedition instead.
I love the official thread on the forums for this, full of incredible details about each waypoint and people really coming together in the spirit of the event, almost roleplaying it. I love the little touches like people changing their forum avatars to a ‘Distant Worlds 3302’ mission badge just like NASA would do. Brilliant.
It seems that Elite: Dangerous is doing really well sales wise, and I hope it continues to grow and get better over the coming years, the game is fantastic imho and there is nothing else out there quite like it.

Tongle Armsbend well, there is in Horizons. People are going mental for the ‘Barnacles’ ;-)

Mostly trading and RES hunting, I spend quite a bit of time travelling around populated space in my Anaconda finding trade routes and looking for systems that have all the things I like so I can set up a temporary home for a while.

They certainly fun, some of the stories where lots of NPCs are chasing the smuggler and trying to scan them sounds like a right laugh, especially with such high stakes. I must kit a Cobra out.

Fair enough. But then I would ask what HAVE you been doing all this time. I have not done much with the goals. I actually feel kinda dumb because it should be easy for me to figure out. Yet I spent more time reading up on what I should be doing and trying to figure it out last time I was in that I just kinda walked away.

PhoenixDfire Kanbe Yup agree. I use a combination of an Xbox controler and voice attack or Rocat powergrid (handy if I am playing late at night and I want to try to keep the noise levels down).  Never felt hamstrung using my budget set up.
Still a good hotas set up would be nice but its perfectly playable without one too.

Cotic_OP GoJammit I’ve just recently started smuggling, and it’s actually quite a lot of fun.

Serrenity PhoenixDfire alexjwillis Estranged No offense to you, but I’ve told you this a few weeks ago and I think someone else also told you again a week ago.

Also, 150LY is not exploring. In an exploration ship that is only 5 jumps, so less than 10 minutes of flying.

Anyway, I’m glad you understand this now.
