Firefly Online extends development to work in the original cast

Sometimes even big damn heroes have to wait until a plan comes together.

Firefly Online, the official online RPG that will be continuing the adventures of the 2002 sci-fi show, has been taking its sweet time getting to release. While it was originally supposed to come out in spring 2015, the dev team has kept it in testing due to the good fortune of getting most of the original cast to reprise their in-game roles. This will be a great boon to the game, of course, but it also required the team to restructure the game from the ground-up (as it was originally not going to feature any of those characters).

The reshuffling of the game’s focus and the working relationship between the three involved companies has kept Firefly Online news to a minimum for the time being. The dev team is looking at when it can start sharing what features this new version of the game will contain.

An official companion app for the game was released in January 2014 on Steam.

They have recorded over 100 pages of dialogue by the original cast. This is a huge amount for NPC’s. It can only improve the game experience.

JayPower True that at release it will more like a solo play experience. But as well as the markets being global look for the pirates and alliance patrols being influenced by how busy the trade routes are. High traffic areas will attract pirates wich will then draw more alliance patrols.
The plan is to increase the MMO experience with updates.

Valcan321 Damonvile . It’s not just a mobile game. It will be playable on pc, mac, android and apple. So you can play on the go or at home. Your account will be synced on all platforms you use and everyone will be in the same sandbox. :)

Armsbend He’d do it if he could schedule it, like most of the cast he has very fond memories of his experiences with it, the cast and crew. Fillion and the rest of them have repeatedly made statements of this sort about Firefly.

Armsbend You do know that he does lot of other stuff besides Castle? He was in 11 other things besides Castle in 2015 alone.

tominva2012  As much as I liked the show, not every IP is a good fit for an online RPG.  And the fact that it’s a mobile game makes it even less likely that this will be anything worth playing.

I loved the original show, but I really think it’s time to move on… I am not optimistic about this game’s prospects.
